My son Jack has just been told - last week - that he now has the all-clear from a heart irregularity that has been causing us all a lot of worry over the last four years.

As many of you will know he has had blackouts, alternating high and then low blood pressure, went through his A-Levels with a heart-rate monitor fitted and had countless tests and  visits to various parts of the very wonderful local National Health Service.  To complicate matters earlier this year he contracted a throat infection which eventually lead to him having his tonsils removed at the age of 18 - another stay in hospital, more stress, more tests, and another delay for his final cardiac diagnosis.

Throughout all this Jack still managed to perform lead role in West Side Story in his final year at school (with monitor fitted!) and later had four singing parts in Les Miserables at the theatre in Norwich - so he hasn't let things get in his way!

But the threat has always been there, and now we have had the all-clear he has decided in typical Jack fashion to celebrate by testing out his newly certified constitution...

With his Doctor's blessing (this morning, in writing!) Jack has decided to a do a sponsored (assisted) skydive on August 25th with two of his schoolfriends - with the aim of raising funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation [ http://www.make-a-wish.org.uk/ - http://www.make-a-wish.org.uk/  ] which helps dreams come true for children and young people fighting life-threatening diseases.

Jack thought it would be fun to design a set of stamps to help promote his BIG JUMP so he has spent most of this week organising and designing a range of stamp minisheets and covers which will be sold to raise the funds for his sponsored skydive.

I have just got them back from the printers, who have kindly donated them, and we will be perforating them over the next few days with a little donated help from another friend here - thanks! You know who you are!

So as soon as we have some pictures we will post them here on the Market Place and I hope some of you will be generous enough to support Jack and his friends in this charity project - and get some jolly nice stamps into the bargain. More news over the next couple of days...   Wink

When I saw the title of this thread my mind went straight to My Name is Earl and Catalina's dance.
And that memorable quote from Catalina when Earl asked her to do her dance to help get Joy out of Jail. "I will not jump for Joy" she tells him.

That aside I hope Jack achieves his aims and has great fun doing it.

Just a quick thought though. With East anglia being so flat and barely above sea level in many places does this mean he has further to fall?

Thanks everyone - yes, it is one thing less to worry about  Smile

Though a small part of me now thinks the best time to celebrate will be after he has landed successfully and safely...

I'll keep you posted on the availability of the stamps, it's going to be a busy weekend!

Thanks again

Hi Colin, I'm so very pleased for you and Jack, and indeed for the whole family. Please put me down for a sheet of the stamps, and tell me how much they cost whenever you've worked it out..
All the very best,
Charles

Just back from a week away in Cornwall and catching up on the forum as we had no wifi or mobile coverage at the cottage in the coastal village where were staying and the days were too busy keeping wife, son and dog happy to manage to get online at all even when we were back in mobile contact when out and about "doing stuff".

Great to read the good news about Jack's health, Colin. And great to read about your fund-raising efforts for Make-A-Wish, Jack. I'm about to PM you about your inaugural stamp issue. Well done! And best wishes for the jump itself of course!

And very good looking stamps too!  Big smile

I can't afford the whole set of sheets but is there any chance of a smaller amount? How about a donation for a bag of single stamps or just the cover?

My pack of goodies arrived today thanks.  Nice stamps Jack.  Clearly there is some talent there.  From your mother's side maybe?

Were these stamps expensive to make? I'd like to print some stamps for a promotion I am doing to raise funds for a charity bicycle ride, not a jump, but thougt I could post stamps to sponsors from different towns on the route.  But if they cost a lot then I probably would be better off just donating the money instead.
