Commemorating the 500th PO Collection Box in Ankh Morpork (Colin Edwards variant)

Just spotted this Charles...

The postcards I sold off were alternative postcard design options offered to the shop, so if you follow the line that the officially sanctioned Stamp Catalogue website takes - that if an item wasn't sold - or was otherwise available - at the Wincanton shop then it isn't officially a Discworld Stamp offering - and it cannot appear on your Discworld list alongside the selected 500th PO Commemorative PC.

Have you thought of listing stamp-related items such as beermats and coasters?  I have some Eight Panthers and Slonky based (?!) items which recycled existing artwork originally devised for stamp items.

And mugs, a few of those about too...  Wink

Regarding the Commemorative postcard that I listed, I feel that it's a valid Discworld post card, and thus belongs on the list, much as Ian's Sick Squid post card does.
I must admit that I have a similar thread running on the Cunning Artificers forum where I have restricted the list to Items produced by the Emporium... I thought it would be appropriate to look slightly further afield here.
Funnily enough I've just this minute won a set of Discworld stamp coasters on e-bay... I'd need to look into how many varieties have been produced. I also have a small collection of Discworld Tins, Boxes and containers... things that range from the ceramic "Luggage" box through various tins and wooden boxes right down to Lucifer boxes... I might list those at some stage... I guess I'm demonstrating that I do look further than just stamps!
And yes... no shortage of Mugs...Ermm

No wonder young Ian 'the Coming Artificer' seemed concerned that you might stop collecting...  LOL

I hear that there might soon be a new label to collect too - don't forget to add that to your list!  I hope you get a few sheets in recognition of all your efforts.

You need to add the covers produced before Going Postal was published when Bernard was toying with the new barcode style stamp facility offered by the Royal Mail.  'More than one way to kill a cat' I seem to remember scrawled over the back of the ones I was sent... I think Steve J has a picture of one on his Catalogue site.  Stamps that I know featured on these were very rough drafts - the Morporkia (a 3p iirc), 50p Cabbage field and a very crude Penny Black...  Must find mine!

This would involve searching back into Pre History... Before the Word was made manifest and the "Big Bang" effect of Going Postal had caused the holy stamps to come into being... Or so some might put it. Certainly before the sanctified "Stanley Howler Numbers" had begun.

It may be possible to track some of them down, but somewhat unlikely I feel. I've still got the Zombie letters, the Mrs Cosmopolite's letters and all but one of the Dragon Sanctuary letters to find. (Though I do have everything else on the lists , barring the Troll Post Card and the Twoshirts Halfpenny post card that have eluded me thus far)

I guess I should make more effort to define what I mean by "Special Cover".
It's not just the fact that they have Discworldly stamps on the cover, or that they tend to be somewhat rarer than the average FDC... The ones I'm talking about are actually Discworld artifacts, and derive in some way from the holy writ itself.

I guess I'm being a bit sarcastic about how seriously some collectors take the hobby, but I'm sure you understand what I'm getting at. I do have a fair few FDC's, (I buy the Hogswatch one each year), but I prefer the special covers because they relate more to Terry's books and not just to the stamps. Sometimes it's all to easy to lose sight of the fact that the reason that I collect the Discworld stamps is because I love the books. Things that directly relate to the stories are far more appealing to me than yearning after entirely derivitive products.

As for new labels, I add them as they appear. There's many a slip 'twixt cup and lip and something that seems like a good idea one week can easily get buried by an ever growing workload and fail to materialise. I understand that there's at least two new discworld games coming out this year, and I'm sure that they will take up a lot of time and energy.

I've looked through my postcards to see if I have any to add.

Now, I'm not sure which ones are included in the "Set of 6 DW advertising Postcards"
-But I have the following black and white cards which I can't find on your list but may or may not be part of that:
Soon Shine Suns sameday tailors
W. Sonky
Pin Monthly
The Cunning Artificers patented painless postacard
The Grand Duchess Annagovia
The Ankh Morpork Anthem

I also have another version of the AM anthem card, which has "The loyal oath" on the other side. From the Jamboree.

I have four different colour Discworld Emporium Advertising Post cards -one shows the Anoia kitchen hook, 3B plate and Death's cloak pin. The second has a meat pie, the Anoia hook, metal objects and stamps. The third shows a chest of drawers with stamps, trading cards and lables. The fourth says: "Going Postal" The stamps in the film. -And shows stamps.

The I also have two different cards advertising the Cabinet of Curiosities.

I also have some double Hogswatch cards from diffenret years, but I don't know if they count as postcards.

There was also the Red nose patrician FDC (only 3 were made so this might count under your 'special' category.)  And the Rockall envelopes- in addition to the plain version, there was also the signed (were there two varieties of this?  I can't remember) and the 'signed by Neptune' one.

Yeah Kel, there was the signed and the dipped, the dipped has a special mark/frank on it to show that its been in Neptune's embrace.

Also, the Dragon sanctuary envelopes! even though there was only supposed to be 10 of them.................. we ended up with a few more variations, where the stamps had been changed (i.e) 2 civics on envelope "A" and 3 gris on envelope "B"  would then come out as the 2 civics on envelope "b" and vice-versa including C,D and E. Also, the earlier envelopes were smaller than the ones near to the end of the run. There was also the envelope(s) that escaped with a civic sport on it.
I have a collection of 20 different envelopes.

Yes, The Rockall covers were special, for they commemorate a heroic venture... but they only relate to Discworld by virtue of having a Leshp stamp on them as well. I'll have a go at getting one the next time one comes up for sale on e-bay. (They put me strongly in mind of the time we eventually managed to effect a landing on Lundy on a very rough day!)

The Red Nosed Patrician / 90 LBE competition covers are also very special, but they are rare collectors items, not Discworld artifacts per se. As I already have a mint RNP, I doubt I'll ever see one of the three covers come up for sale or be able to justify paying out the high price which one would command.

As for the Dragon sanctuary covers I only managed to get one intact, and the closure had gone so brittle that it opened itself on examination. This was cover #9, (Om be Praised etc), stamped with three Penny civic stamps, (No sport I'm afraid),  and contained a joined pair of 1P duty paid stamps, a 2P pink seamstress, a franked Leshp, a franked 2P Plum, and a franked 10P Green morporkia, (both Wincanton Perforated). So no fabulous sports there. The high price and lack of availability of sealed and intact Dragon Sanctuary covers make it unlikely that I'll ever have a full set of them, let alone the variants that Jonty mentions.

The Black and white postcards that you mention, Anne,  I've got and listed them as "Set of 6 DW advertising Postcards", but I don't have the other Emporium advertising cards. They sound nice. The other set of post cards that I'm missing are the ones that came with the two cartoon videos, "Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music"... I'll try and pick those up at some stage.

Thank you all for reminding me of items that I hadn't listed yet.

I guess I'll have to add another section for items that fall between being Discworld artifacts and regular FDC's
