Some might argue that 'serious' combined with 'stamp collecting' is an oxymoron -- like 'fun run'.  Wink

But if I have caused offence I withdraw my comment unreservedly - I speak only for myself and for some (most) of those on the forum I know personally.

Come to think of it, I blooming well don't withdraw.  Why should stamp collecting have to be serious?  I'm here to have fun, and proud of it.  And if Penny Farthing isn't an example of having fun with stamps, I don't know what is.

I wasn't offended Hilary, simply pointing out that there are serious stamp collectors here.

And thanks for explaining to the rest of us what an oxymoron is.

I agree that stamp collecting does not have to be serious and look forward to many further examples of how we might all have fun with our stamp collections.

As you can see Graham, we are a broad church here - room for everyone, all interests and viewpoints are catered for...   welcome!

If and when you ever get any quiet time we'd love to hear more about your local post service.  I have a feeling that while it might on the face of it appear to be fun (you get to wear a hat for goodness sake!) it is in reality a LOT of hard work.

I began this forum as a place to discuss and share ALL cinderella stamps. It is my first forum and is not perfect BUT I will endeavour to make it the best available.

Any positive help appreciated!

Welcome to the forum!

On the flip side, I live in Thailand so I'm probably the furthest member from you!

Murgatroyds been pipped in the post for distance by some guy in NZ. Apparently he used to do a similar postal service in the 60's, sent me stamps and allsorts, lovely chap. Think i'm gaining much more appreciation for philately by the day. :D

Yay! missed out on the sheet of penny farthing stamps, However, managed to snap up a single mint 1st issue stamp for my collection, just waiting for it to arrive. Well pleased

The first edition was yellow on black and is no longer available (sold out) However, the issue from 3rd April is up on e-bay here ( black on white)

I was very pleased to be able to get that sheet at below "face value". Big smile Surprised no-one else bid on it. Just mine at the starting price.

Not so keen on what might be the third issue (already?) - the design has only a symbolic penny farthing, illustrated using black blobs, and a numerical figure of 1-3 which wanders unsuccessfully around the layout - and I think these have lost the traditional charm of the first two designs, more like a 1970s pastiche and less likely to be delivered by a man on an old fashioned bicycle. Think along the lines of what British Leyland might have produced if they were told to run a Post Office in 1973.

Not that there is anything wrong with that - each to their own of course.

But pleased to have got the early designs and complete my early collection with some posters and ephemera too, I am very happy with those.
