One way to pay for a family holiday back in the 50s or 60s was to put a bit by each week in a savings club. Pay so much per week and get a stamp to stick on a card. When summer comes around you redeem them.
This one is for Butlins holiday Camps. ![]() At the time of these stamps the cost of a family holiday at Butlins was £7, the same as the average weekly wage. So you'd need 56 of these to pay for the holiday, or you topped it up when booking. Does anybody know how or where you paid your 2/6? These crop up on auction sites fairly regular, but prices realised vary a lot. However I imaging that most of these were redeemed for the holiday, stuck to collecting cards which were subsequently destroyed. |
