I wonder if anyone can throw any light on the origin and purpose of these stamps. The do appear to have been soaked off covers but are in good condition.
Clearly German, but not associated with pre-1914 German colonies. In fact it is quite a mix of Islamic illustrations. The ruins of Cyrene in in present day Saudia Arabia, as is the Grave of Eve in Jeddah. The Bari war dance is of a people in southern Sudan. Laheg I think is in Libya, while the Wahabbi camel cavalry is from the Persian Gulf; the Wahhabis are a small orthodox sect. |
