I have been going through one of my boxes of Cinderella stamps; something I have not done since ... ummm ... 2019. Some nice things in there. Nothing particually valuble, but I like them.
This is a complete sheet of Irish Sweepstakes stamps. Does anybody know how were they used? Just to advertise? Though running for over 50 years from 1930 the prizes and donations from sales of the lottery tickets remained compartively low. ![]() ![]() |

Steve, viewing your images by opening in a new tab, I can tell you that they made money by selling Irish Hospital's Sweepstakes Tickets. However, this was a for profit scheme making a fortune for the operators but not so much for the charity. They did open various businesses on the profits and so it did lead to employment. In 2010 David Corless wrote a book entitled "The Greatest Bleeding Hearts Racket in the World : Irish Hospitals Sweepstakes".
Here's a slightly different version of the sheet and 2 tickets. ![]() |
