Does anyone have any suggestions about how to move forward now that Imgur have stopped sharing images with the UK?
Is Flickr bulletproof? Or should we finally give up on the forum and move to Facebook or Instagram instead? Any thoughts appreciated... the licence for the forum does not come up for renewal until February so plenty of time before then to make a decision that everyone will be happy with.

I am firmly of the opinion tthat forums such as these are the only way inform, share, comment, archive, interact, categorise subjects and control who can be here

I have got Flickr working now. Its actually a bit easier than Imgur, and certainly easier than posting from my own server space |

I think that matters are exacerbated by not being able to edit our old posts. If that was permitted, we could go back and replace the images over time.
imgur withdrawing from the UK stems directly from data protection for children and could not have been predicted.
Also, I'm surprised at the seemingly large number of visitors that we appear to have, yet, very few are willing to post on the forum and that, in my view, is the biggest problem that we face. Add to that, the imgur debacle and, I'm sorry to say, but we're dead in the water. Colin, of course, is burdened with the cost of running the forum. Sorry. That's my view. Daniel

I thought we had overcome that issue, old posts can now be edited, pictures updated/replaced. I agree that the big problem we have is that people would rather read than post, but I suppose stamp collectors could just be a shy lot! We have always insisted that people need to be members before they post. I could open up posts to all and sundry but we would quickly fall foul of spam though perhaps nowadays, if forums are so unpopular, spammers are more likely to be trawling social media instead and we might now fly under the radar? I don't have time to pick through good and bad posts every day so will always err on side of caution. I believe most of the 'visitors' are AI bots. Of the members who do visit perhaps only 10-15 are core 'regulars'. I do sometimes wonder if it would not be more practical to organise meetings in London for members instead! We have until February to sort something out. |

Hello Colin, I really enjoy dipping into the Forum as it is a "font of knowledge" and has really helped me build my collections. I would say that I mainly get replies from yourself, Steve, Arthur and Andy. As you say the others may be a bit shy but I would say the aforementioned and myself have certainly benefitted collection wise from conversing with each other and others are probably missing out from this aspect of the Forum.
I can't comment on the image discussion as I have never tried to post an image. Regards, Barry
