The rushing home worked a treat and the postman didn't fail me.

An envelope bearing one of the fabled Welsh bilingual 1st class country definitives commercially used.  What a find!!

What excellent designs and tall(ish) tales.  Well done Steve.  I particularly liked what I found when I peered inside the Canre'r Gwaelod commemorative cover!

And you make Wales seem so much more interesting than it really is.  I've been to Borth and the fossil forest beats the built-up part by a country mile!

I like the rouletting of the Tramway stamps.  What's your technique for doing it?  If it's not a secret that is.

I had the day off today and was hoping that the postman would bring something special this morning (it's good to still be excited by the post). By 1pm nothing had arrived and so I thought 'maybe tomorrow'. At 2.40 in the afternoon the post arrived!!! 2.40pm!!! I can remember when there were two deliveries a day, now it seems like 'we'll deliver whenever we want'. End of rant.

Now, there were two stamp packages, one delivering some Gerald M. King Wonderland definitives, the Penny Black type, from Australia which are excellent plus very promptly (Royal Mail aside) an envelope containing Steve's latest stamps. I would say that these were even better than his first batch. I loved his scenic stamp on the envelope and the mint version inside as well as another stamp in that set. These were beautiful scenic stamps and I liked the way they were perforated. Also, I loved the Celtic designs especially the square animal ones. As if that wasn't enough, there was an envelope with one of these stamps and a nice wax seal on the back. I didn't open this envelope because I would never dream of opening mail addressed to someone else. Plus there was his 'historical' fact sheet and I wouldn't be surprised if the Welsh Royal Mail stamp was one of his forgeries!

I think it is time you had these printed professionally and perfed as it would make them look all the more 'real'. I can see I am going to have to buy a display book...

(And I am not going to make any comments about King Arthur coming from anywhere near Norwich. Every one knows he came from Upton-cum-Chalvey in Buckinghamshire... and is buried on an island in the middle of a lake in the public park there. Surely).

Thanks Colin. I will have to think again about this suggestion, but its going to down to cost rather than time thats the decider for me.

There are other competing interests for my hard-earned ( ), philatelic and beyond.

Received the latest issues from Steve yesterday. A new chapter in his Welsh Philatelic Oddities series. This time classic local stamps, River Dee Ferry Mail, 2 stamps for 25p and 55p mint and cancelled on the envelope and 2 older Dee Ferry Mail stamps both for 1 and 1/2 d. Plus his first LBE. Mine arrived earlier this week too.  They are, in combination with the brilliant background information, exceptionally good.  You should be very proud of them Steve.

Having lived beside the Dee myself in the past I well remember the "stamp on pig" being reported in the Chester Chronicle.  It would be great if it were possible to dig out a copy of that from the archives.

I thought at first that it was going to be the issue of the Flint/Neston ferry.  That was a disaster as the Dee is tidal there and there were no piers.  You either couldn't get to the ferry because of the mud flats or the boat couldn't deal with the tidal bore.  I think all the stamps went down with the ferry when she sank after 3 days of "service"

I shall have to enquire at the Chronicle offices next time I'm in Chester. I'm sure I'd be able to get a photocopy if they still have that report in their archives.

I did hope to locate some Flint & Neston Ferry stamps, but have had no luck as yet. Even though they only had a postal 'life' of 3 days, they did manage 5 commemorative issues, so you'd think there would be some lying around. It is rumoured that the sheets for the 75th Anniversary of the Bagillt Incident never left dry land, so they could turn up one day.

"Mad Mick"!    I'm doing the Hadrian's Wall walk with him next April.  I'm glad to say he's calmed down a lot since he managed to extract the policeman's truncheon.

It's strange they don't mention anything about the stamps though.
