I received my Amazing Gone West Discworld envelopes today (bear with me I know that this isn't the Discworld forum) and received some nice stamps but no new sports. Still 4 new stamps, a fdc and a new lbe plus the 2 new postbox labels on the envelope. Not bad. In the same post, I received Steve's envelope expecting 2 or 3 of his stamp designs. Inside the envelope was a great little bumper package containing 9 stamps, 3 fake Discworld stamps, 2 covers with postmarks and a leaflet on the Oernant Tramway Post(his invention). Fantastic! This is where I would like to go but so far I only have some ideas in the back of my head (I'm also a fan of Nick Bantock). Steve has used a variety of methods to separate the stamps including imperforate, rouletting, faux perforations (as mentioned by Mike Hurley) and proper perforations. These are outstanding and will definitely feature in my Cinderella collection. Those maps were for real, and from the stated location. Beyond that its up to you. I got my Tetraterra book off Mike today and I'm amazed at his background info. I had some idea of what the Tetraterra stamps were about and didn't want to copy him, nor copy Gerald Kings ideas of Alice, Lundy and all the rest. The idea of Welsh postal oddities came to me one day and took off. I still have not got to where I want to be though. The 3 Ps - Paper, printing and perforations are never quite what I was aiming to achieve. My envelope arrived today and I had to set everything else aside to take it all in. What an excellent package you have produced Steve - a completely self-contained stamp range! Very impressive. And from the Welsh Hills too. You will have to send copies for the headerboard and perhaps you will get other collectors clamouring for some copies. I don't think anyone would mind paying more than £2 for such creativity and commitment. Consequently, the next issues are already well developed, but I don't want to flood them out. 3-4 weeks would be a decent interval I reckon, but if all subscribers are impatient for more I could up the rate a bit. (Makes a mental note to get more paper). I'm thinking how I could post up the background info for you to print out for yourselves. I did consider a booklet, but that would have to wait until the final release. You would still get a copy in the post but you could print your own on unfolded paper. I would like to 'tart' the design up a bit first. The full name of our state is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain consists of the countries of England, Scotland and Wales. Officially all people of the UK are British. Steve - I wouldn't change anything from what you are doing already. I can see that hanging a pdf online for all the letter contents might appeal against printing these things off yourself and then folding and packing them but I think part of the charm and personality of what you are doing is that it is directly from the artist. Once you start trusting people to print their own copies of things off you have no control over what size sheet or quality of paper your artwork is printed out at and you take the chance that items will find their way out to collectors that you wouldn't approve of. Downloads are fine for big producers price or stock lists but not for the artefacts. Bhutan seems tolead the way with DVD CD 3D stamps, while wooden stamps also exist. I have little doubt that everything possible has already been done, somewhere, by someone, but it is all about how well it is done that matters. Simply bashing out a design in order just to 'tick a box' is not the answer but if you are patient and wait for the right subject matter to present itself for which the special process or materials complement the design, then that makes for a much more memorable end product. When designing cinderellas we don't have the baggage of national or corporate house styles, accessibility, heads of state, and two hundred years of stamp design heritage to address before we start.
