Has anyone received their envelopes yet? I'm a bit concerned, because Colin's and Daniel's came straight back to me, but have been reposted. I'm wondering if the others have been 'lost'. Got mine Just reading this now - I emailed you early today - let me know if you've had the email.. Great stuff - how much is Fact/fictional ? Good stuff - Easy worth a couple of quid for anyone reading this... Cheers Mark smile #31 2009-09-10 21:30:00 Daniel First Class From: United Kingdom Registered: 2009-07-04 Posts: 61 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps? I received my Amazing Gone West Discworld envelopes today (bear with me I know that this isn't the Discworld forum) and received some nice stamps but no new sports. Still 4 new stamps, a fdc and a new lbe plus the 2 new postbox labels on the envelope. Not bad. In the same post, I received Steve's envelope expecting 2 or 3 of his stamp designs. Inside the envelope was a great little bumper package containing 9 stamps, 3 fake Discworld stamps, 2 covers with postmarks and a leaflet on the Oernant Tramway Post(his invention). Fantastic! This is where I would like to go but so far I only have some ideas in the back of my head (I'm also a fan of Nick Bantock). Steve has used a variety of methods to separate the stamps including imperforate, rouletting, faux perforations (as mentioned by Mike Hurley) and proper perforations. These are outstanding and will definitely feature in my Cinderella collection. A VERY BIG THANK YOU AND WELL DONE. #32 2009-09-10 23:43:17 Steve Special From: United Kingdom Registered: 2009-08-27 Posts: 257 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

Those maps were for real, and from the stated location. Beyond that its up to you. I got my Tetraterra book off Mike today and I'm amazed at his background info. I had some idea of what the Tetraterra stamps were about and didn't want to copy him, nor copy Gerald Kings ideas of Alice, Lundy and all the rest. The idea of Welsh postal oddities came to me one day and took off. I still have not got to where I want to be though. The 3 Ps - Paper, printing and perforations are never quite what I was aiming to achieve. Got mine today- Thanks, Steve- still don't know how you do it for 2 quid, even if you do use slave labour! Still trying to work out how to display the covers and stamps (the sheet was easy)- any suggestions anybody? #35 2009-09-11 08:23:54 Colin Recorded From: United Kingdom Registered: 2009-07-21 Posts: 209 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps? My envelope arrived today and I had to set everything else aside to take it all in. What an excellent package you have produced Steve - a completely self-contained stamp range! Very impressive. And from the Welsh Hills too. You will have to send copies for the headerboard and perhaps you will get other collectors clamouring for some copies. I don't think anyone would mind paying more than £2 for such creativity and commitment. Thanks for the Wanted LBE too ;-) I hope you are already working on your next issues... #36 2009-09-11 22:21:14 Steve Special From: United Kingdom Registered: 2009-08-27 Posts: 257 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps? Thanks for the nice comments folks. Very encouraging. It is slave labour Simon. I'm a slave to my computer, if you didnt already know. Consequently, the next issues are already well developed, but I don't want to flood them out. 3-4 weeks would be a decent interval I reckon, but if all subscribers are impatient for more I could up the rate a bit. (Makes a mental note to get more paper). I'm thinking how I could post up the background info for you to print out for yourselves. I did consider a booklet, but that would have to wait until the final release. You would still get a copy in the post but you could print your own on unfolded paper. I would like to 'tart' the design up a bit first. Got mine today too! I also got Colin and Alan's Wadstock stamps. It was like Christmas! Beautiful job Steve! Thanks so much. I'd also like to know what parts are true and what parts aren't. And, just for the record, I know Wales isn't England. I also know the UK and GB are not the same thing, but whenever I ask someone to tell me the difference I get a different answer! #38 2009-09-11 23:06:44 Daniel First Class From: United Kingdom Registered: 2009-07-04 Posts: 61 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps? The full name of our state is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain consists of the countries of England, Scotland and Wales. Officially all people of the UK are British. Just don't ask about the national flag. #39 2009-09-12 08:29:36 Colin Recorded From: United Kingdom Registered: 2009-07-21 Posts: 209 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps? Steve - I wouldn't change anything from what you are doing already. I can see that hanging a pdf online for all the letter contents might appeal against printing these things off yourself and then folding and packing them but I think part of the charm and personality of what you are doing is that it is directly from the artist. Once you start trusting people to print their own copies of things off you have no control over what size sheet or quality of paper your artwork is printed out at and you take the chance that items will find their way out to collectors that you wouldn't approve of. Downloads are fine for big producers price or stock lists but not for the artefacts. You've set the bar high for yourself now and you mustn't let the standards slip :-) #40 2009-09-12 11:19:53 Steve Special From: United Kingdom Registered: 2009-08-27 Posts: 257 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps? Good points Colin, which I shall heed. I would have included the original, but with what you say the extra work of converting to pdf and posting up is unnecessary. I will however pay a bit more attention to the printed sheet layout. I wasn't happy with page 2 of Oernant. Bhutan seems tolead the way with DVD CD 3D stamps, while wooden stamps also exist. So don't be surprised if, when I have found a way to print on a leek or daffodil, you get one on a cover; I will draw the line at a sheep stamp though. #42 2009-09-14 00:31:32 simon evans Registered From: Australia Registered: 2009-08-27 Posts: 20 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps? a thread on the DW stamp forum has wandered off onto weird and wonderful stamps around the world. I have little doubt that everything possible has already been done, somewhere, by someone, but it is all about how well it is done that matters. Simply bashing out a design in order just to 'tick a box' is not the answer but if you are patient and wait for the right subject matter to present itself for which the special process or materials complement the design, then that makes for a much more memorable end product. It pays to keep a notebook of your sketched or written down ideas so that you can refer back and add to or amend your thoughts. #44 2009-09-14 08:30:38 simon evans Registered From: Australia Registered: 2009-08-27 Posts: 20 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps? Apologies if it looked as if I was directly commenting on your posting Simon, I wasn't; just generally commenting that whether stamps are printed on mini-CDs, pieces of wood, whatever, it is so much better when the materials are relevant to the message. When designing cinderellas we don't have the baggage of national or corporate house styles, accessibility, heads of state, and two hundred years of stamp design heritage to address before we start. What a luxury! #46 2009-09-14 18:49:39 Mark First Class From: United Kingdom Registered: 2009-07-24 Posts: 75 Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps? I will draw the line at a sheep stamp though.
