First orders will be in the post today.

Please note that there are fewer sheets available this year than in previous years - first come, first served.

Keep an eye out for some special tete-beche pairs on eBay, by kind permission of the (anonymous) winning designer. You know who you are!

Soon!

But first I need to tell everyone that we have already sold more than 50% of the stampsheet stock. If you are hoping to buy a sheet - be quick!

I have started a separate thread for the Black Cats.

We should be discussing the Year 4 Forum stamps here, so if anybody else has a Cat to show us, and I reckon quite a few of you should have, then please post http://www.cinderellastampsforum.com/topic969_post12303.html#12303" rel="nofollow - over here .

Anyway, the new Forum stamps are GREEEEAT! Perfect as Cinderellas, and nice punning. Alan has done a good authentic redrawing too. marks: 11/10

I have just received my stampsheet and the stamp looks so much better than the photographs would have you believe!

However the ink on my 'Discworld' label is quite flaky. Are these printed on the same press as the stamps? And is this using a laser copier or digital printing, or that wax printing macine that Hilary was talking about on the other thread?  Whatever printing method it is I wouldn't recommend using it for dark coloured stamps or labels.  Thumbs Down

Otherwise very happy!

The forum stamp on the cover, the postage label, and the Discworld label were all printed at the same time on the same machine and on the same paper.

The flaking could be down to me - hand-cutting the labels with a scalpel rather than having them  guillotined with a very sharp edge.

The Cat labels are all printed in Norwich.

When?

I have put the first three Tete-Beche variant pairs on eBay - and we have bids already, so someone has spotted them  Wink

Another three to go on tonight.

I hope that having six pairs listed will make bidding fairer and that everyone who wants them will have a good chance to own a pair.

I have to ask...

Why is that that out of all the tete-beche pairs being sold on eBay there is one item that has not attracted any bids, yet others have attracted 3 bids?

What is wrong, different or undesirable about #4 that makes it so unworthy of a bid?

As far as I can determine from the photographs it is practically identical to #3  Confused

because some bidders don't look?

This has happened to me times before. Two identical items listed, I bid on one and next day someone ignores the other and outbids me.

I think it is also human nature to want to bid on something someone else wants - particularly when there are a range of similar items listed.

Perhaps new bidders will look down the list, see that one item has been overlooked and wonder if there is something wrong with that which they are not aware of. So there might be thought to be some security in bidding for something already 'recognised' by others.

All of the pairs of anniversary stamps listed have the same content, with the exception of the two end pairs which carry their selvedge. There are no extra 'hidden' variations.

A big thank-you from me to everyone who has been brave enough to put in a starting bid!

One listing still hasn't been bid on, yet others have 3 bids.

I have my bid in already. Hands off!

I see that all of the listings now have minimum bids.

Just out of interest, how do collectors here feel about the last two listings having the selvage attached?

Are they any more valuable for the extra paper edge or will buyers tear the edge off when displaying the stamps? I know lots of collectors do not like selvage and also hate the risks attached to tearing it off.

Why did the first listings all have their selvage torn off?  Couldn't they all have been sold with their selvage?

Wouldn't it have been better or fairer to have listed two pairs without selvage followed by one with selvage, and then the same pattern the following day rather than leaving the two with selvage until last.

Collectors who have missed out on the previous 4 without selvage will also be bidding for the last two left?

A common rule of thumb is that if the selvedge is there leave it, unless you personally do not wnat it. In serious philately it can identify where on a sheet the stamp came from if there is any design associated. Risk of damage removing it is another factor. For these stamps it doesn't add much to stamp - we only see part of a bigger picture

There is no deep meaning behind the pairs of stamps having selvedge or not, or the order in which they appear.

The only idea was that they are sold to raise funds to help pay costs of illustration and printing. I am very grateful to the winning designer for donating the sheet.

They were listed in the order I scanned them, and after putting up three listings it struck me I should split the sale into two nights just in case someone might be unavailable on one night or the other.

I think one night's sale coincides with Doctor Who so apologies for that... next time I will try harder!

Someone's now outbid me on "mine" (meaning "the one I happened to bid on").

Quite a range of winning bids on the three last night. I hope there aren't bidding wars this evening as I'll have to miss out.

PLEASE NOTE that due to previously set aside orders not being taken up, there are now more sheets of the forum anniversary stamps available if anyone has missed out.

Please PM Colin if you would still like a sheet.

So who was lucky enough to win the pairs?

From what I can tell it appears some bidders bid (and won) more than one pair, surely a bit greedy!

If the forum uses this method of fundraising again another year could we have more than 6 pairs listed please?  Big smile

I'll try to keep this short.

I was given permission by the winning stamp designer to put ONE of their prize sheets of 6 pairs up for sale.

eBay seemed the best place to do this with the minimum of inconvenience for me, and with the greatest audience - which would presumably include members from here. I posted here that the items were available on eBay, as did several other members during the time the stamps were listed. I even forewarned people here that the first 3 listings coincided with Doctor Who!

I cannot be responsible for who bids, how much they bid, or how many items they bid for. It is a FREE market. The fact that one of the listings sold at the starting price indicates that it was possible to win an auction at a low price.

I cannot predict that the winner of next year's competition will give away one of their winning sheets as a fundraiser so any idea of doing this differently another time will have to be tackled if and when it comes up.

In the meantime I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all those people who bid and for the generosity of the winning bids, and if you did bid and/or win more than one pair of stamps then you have every right to and are not 'being greedy' at all.

Are there any more sheets (or even just a pair of singles) left that I could buy?

I was away when they were issued and missed everything   :-)

They look great by the way, congratulations to the winning designer!

Hi - yes there are a limited number of sheets available and pairs too. Remember you are entitled to a free pair with the sheet, or with an sae.

PM me for details and I'll sort it out for you at the weekend.

Strewth, Doctor Who must be good !!!
You can bid the highest amount you are happy to pay at ANY time and then go off and have a life -even if that does include Doctor Who.
Safe in the happy knowledge your bid will be weighed against others. If yours is highest you win, if it's not you don't
Simplessss............
