In amongst my collection of Gerald King issues there are a fair number of single sets unrelated to anything else - clearly the product of Gerald's fertile imagination when something has caught his attention fleetingly.

So I've added a Miscellaneous page to the askme website and added the first two.  http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=4032" rel="nofollow - Naked ladies and hats .  I'll add others from time to time.

I know lots of you like Revenue stamps.  So, for a treat, I have added two such issues to the Gerald King miscellaneous page.

They were both produced in 2000 for The Revenue Society.  The Canada stamp was commissioned as an "essay" and given to guests at the Philatelic Congress Banquet.  I don't suppose anyone has a copy of that which they are willing to pass on to me in gratitude for me adding the issues to askme?

I've recently discovered that Gerry produced a Bahrain Camel Post stamp in the mid-1980's.  I've none of the stamps yet but do own the aluminium printing plates used in the litho printing process.

I do also now have my hands on a redesign of the stamp .  The original plates and revised issue can be http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=4282" rel="nofollow - seen here on the Askme website .

I've discovered that I do have two blocks of the original Bahrain stamps!!  Discovered in a house move and perhaps making up for the things I can't find yet.

So I've updated the askme website to include these.  http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=4282" rel="nofollow - Here are the little beauties!

If only..!!  I've loads of Gerry King aluminium plates and could swamp the market with Wonderland stamps in new colours and make a killing.  Co-incidentally my new home was converted from a printers in 1980 but they didn't leave any machines behind. Cry

I recently purchased a couple of blocks of the original Bahrain Camel Post stamps. I was fortunate insofar as they were not identified as being by Gerald King but I was able to recognise them from Keith's images. There used to be a pecking order for Gerald's stamps in this order; Wonderland, Lundy, Sark and Everything else with this later category being more readily affordable. These days almost anything by him commands a good price. Anyway, here are the stamps:

Hi Keith,

I see that you have posted the Ile Chapeau stamps from Gerald King ... Great stamps ...

I have the signed proofs that goes along with the stamps (if you want you are welcome to add them to the " http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=4032" rel="nofollow - Naked ladies and hats "-page):

Ile Chapeau - Signed Proofs (1 of 2)

Ile Chapeau - Signed Proofs (2 of 2)

Do you know the story behind the stamps?

As far as I understand "Ile Chapeau" (Hat Island) is an independent island on River Seine where Ladies must wear the latest fashion in hats dated around 1900-1920

I don't think I knew the story - although it would take weeks of ploughing through Gerald's e-mails to check.  I'll use the information to update the website.  Thanks.

After a wait of only about 33 years there is a new Wonderland Christmas card.  I've added details of it, and its predecessor, to the Askme website and they can be found on http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=4444" rel="nofollow - the end of this link.

As the envelopes include Wonderland stamps and the envelope and card are both signed by Gerry they seem more like collectors' items than something you'd actually put in the post to some ingrate.  They have appeared on eBay; I'm not sure how many there will be (the eBay listing says there are only 3 sets left at the moment) so get in early if you are interested.

Mine came with a letter from Gerry that might help.  But I've been made to tidy everything away for Christmas.  I'll see if I can find it when I'm allowed to mess the house up again in the new year!

Hi,

I bought these two stamps on eBay last week... They were posted as "Gerald King Local Posts" ...

I haven´t seen them before ... but maybe some of you know them and can confirm that they are Gerald Kings work (and maybe even tell some more about them)?

Hi Jesper.  They are certainly Gerald King issues.  I'm not sure I've seen them mint before.  They are used by Gerald on the reverse (usually) of his letters so not sold by him as cinderellas so far as I know.

I've had a look in my boxes and the only one I can spot quickly is the King of hearts tied to the back of a cover with an Ipswich postmark in 2014.  I have the feeling that I will have recycled any covers with only one of these on the back (I know - sacrilege!) so I'm not sure if there are clubs and spades as well.  Maybe others will be able to help.

Here's a link to the image I posted on the Askme facebook page at the time

I was rooting through my Gerald King heap today and came across an envelope to me with a King of Clubs on a "King's Local Post" label on the front.  Its value is one copper groat.  So I assume there is a spade label too in order to make a full set.

I'm having a rest from Wonderland, Snark & Lundy and getting up to date with the more obscure issues of Gerry King.

So I've added his reproduction of WWI labels from the magazine The Happy Home to the Miscellaneous pages on askme http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=4458." rel="nofollow - and you can find them just here.   Only 6 sheets exist.  Happy hunting!

I've also added two covers to the Alternative Burma page and these can be  http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=3874" rel="nofollow - seen at the bottom of this page.

A few Gerry King Alternative Australia sets have started to appear on eBay.  As they are very rare I thought I'd add details of them to the askmeaboutstamps website and http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=4472" rel="nofollow - you can see them here.   If you like swans and kangaroos you'll be well pleased.

I've added a new page to the askme website to cover Gerry's Alternative GB issues.  I was going to call it GB stamps from unadopted essays (snappy title) but, when I was scanning them I realised that not all meet that description.

I don't know too much about the original frames/essays so, if you have any knowledge about the background to any of the issues that will help me to flesh out the website I'd be pleased to hear it.

Hi all,

My collection of Gerald King Wonderland stamps is currently a big mix of hundreds of stamps from different printings (different ages) etc.

I am trying get the stamps sorted.. in regards to age/printing...

It isn't as easy as it sounds and I am hoping that someone from this Forum can help me getting started by posting some pictures of the following:

1) One or more of the stamps from the original first printing of the Wonderland series...
2) One or more of the stamps from the second printing of the Wonderland series...
3) One or more of the stamps from the third printing of the Wonderland series...
4) One or more of the stamps from the fourth printing of the Wonderland series...
5) Examples of later printings... or other things that could be helpful

Thanks in advance...

I don't know the exact answer but Gerald thinks it was 5 or 6 years ago. Mind you, knowing how time flies for us old folk it could just as well have been 20! 😜 . No more than 6 strips exist. Assuming Gerry and Jesper and I all have one who has the others? Come on, admit it.

Perhaps Gerry has 2 sets. Wasn't there kerfuffle when one set was posted on eBay and he withdrew them?

Inspired by Jesper's recent post, I've added the Newfoundland Airship Company to the Newfoundland page on Askme.

I can't spot where I've ever posted about the original Nefoundland Air essays that Gerry produced in 2003 and which caused a great stir at the time.  So you may all enjoy the whole page at the other end of this link.  http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=4147" rel="nofollow - http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=4147

This is very curious. The Newfoundland Airship Company stamps were produced in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 2004, I believe, by someone working at Harvard and with links to Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. I have a few of the stamps, an essay, a cover and a boarding pass all lovingly created and I also have the top stamp of this set that you have featured. Most of the stamps have frames taken from the stamps of Newfoundland and feature airships and whaling vessels. On the reverse, they have the word Cinderella printed multiple times (early issues were stamped with the word 'faux' on the back). They were sold on eBay on an auction basis and I do not know in what quantity they were produced. Therefore, I do not believe that Gerald designed this set but were probably, as with his other Newfoundland set, copies. I haven't posted much recently but I'll try to show what I have in a separate thread.

I shall ask nicely and report back.  They could be fake cinderellas - Gerald would like that.  Images from a Google search suggest to me that the top stamp might be the original as described by Daniel and the other three are Gerald versions.  I'll let you know.

Gerry confirms my speculation that, having acquired the original Newfoundland Airship Company stamp, he "worked in the others" to produce the strip of 4.  He was amazed the discover that the original stamp was issued in 2004 so all we now know is that the Gerry King versions were produced some time between 2004 and 2012 (ish).  Can anyone throw any more light on the date?

I came across a nice lot of Gerald's Bahrain Camel Post stamps, mainly the one with the green border, and including multiple imperforate blocks and singles. These imperforate versions all appear to be errors with the centre only inverted. In addition there are proofs of the centre camel design, again, both perforated and imperforate. An example of this is shown on the reverse of the envelope shown above.
