What great designs. Which stamps were the winning entries?

Date Posted: 06 May 2014 at 00:44
Year One - the blue triangle

Year Two - the swan

Year Three - the peacock feather

I very much like that this year's design entrant E shows each of these winning stamps on the 'evidence' being held up by the lawyer. It had to be explained to me but the lawyer represents 'silk' which in some parts of the world is the name given to a fourth anniversary.

There are some gems there!

If enough people are interested (and all of the producers of the previous years' designs agree) I could produce a commemorative A4 sheet of the first five years of entries - next year.

Here are the Year 5 entries...

Voting ends on May 9th when all results will be counted and the winner announced.

Please PM Admin with your vote, do not post publicly as this spoils the excitement for the designers.

Thanks again to everyone who submitted a design  Wink

More great designs this year. It was hard to pick just three to vote on, but managed in the end. Good luck everyone.

Tough choice but in the end I just thought to myself ' which one would I like to have designed myself...'

Thank you to all the designers involved, next year I must get involved.   LOL

Could I ask Members, when submitting your PM for the Vote, could you put something like 'My Vote' in the header so I know I don't need to open it until Vote Day...

That way I don't get any idea of how the vote is going and it's as much of a surprise for me as it is for everyone else.

Thank you  Big smile

Well done to everyone who submitted designs! Several of these look like more time and effort was put into them than into most of the "real" stamps the USA has issued this year. There are some excellent options from which to choose.

Could someone explain to us Colonials across the pond whether the design 'C' is based on an English Royal 'Machine' stamp label? It looks familiar so I am thinking it could be a spoof. Is there an in-joke we will be unaware of here?

Any chance someone could post up a picture of the 'correct' Postal Office stamp?

It's a pastiche of our 'Post & Go' Machin stamps...

There are lots more examples online; some very attractive wildlife versions illustrated not 20 miles from here; just Google 'Post & Go Machin'.

Let me know if anyone is interested in designing (and buying) a sheet of stamps for our sixth year.

If enough people are interested I now have enough sample sheets of gummed paper to get a short run of last year's winer printed and will print those at the same time as this years'. But there must be enough people interested in buying sufficient sheets to make it worth printing - or my attempts at fundraising will be a complete waste of time!

I will buy a sheet to support the forum and the people who pay for it and maintain it; whether I like the design or not.

That sounds even fairer to me.  Wink

Am I missing something?  Why do I have to ask Steve?  Is there something us mere mortals have not had shared amongst us?

I've got at least one stamp and in some cases also a sheet for all the known ordinary and sport stamps produced. Surely that is all I could have been referring to as that is all I know exists.

If a stamp isn't shown in the gallery here then it doesn't officially exist and shouldn't be treated as an official anniversary stamp.

I was referring to having to beg and plead. Seems you had a hard time completing these stamps. In no way was I suggesting any different or extra stamps. A simple request for spares would have saved you going down on your knees to get them.

My apologies Steve

I was unaware that you had spares for sale or exchange and simply asked locally at our club meeting.  The reference to begging, pleading and trading was just me being a bit over-dramatic to put a smile on the face of the lovely young lady I got them from.  It was simply intended as a bit of humour, as it turns out it was quite easy to acquire the previous issues because she buys more than one sheet with the intention of passing the earlier singles to new members, which I think is completely laudable, by the way, and I am very grateful to her.

I am also sorry that you misinterpreted my comments about not having 'all' of the stamps.  I took that to mean that despite there being records available of the appropriate issues available, there was something clever going on that no-one had noticed and you were about to reveal it to all of us.  I am sure I had picked up that you were responsible for the design of some of the anniversary stamps and was opening the door for you to reveal more.  It wouldn't be the first time that a collector had been given to beleieve he had the full set only for someone 'in the know' to drop such a bombshell at a later stage.  Colin had told me about the three feet for example.

In future I will have to think twice about posting here as it seems so easy to offend and upset, in fact it may be simpler to not post again at all.

This won't stop me supporting the next anniversary stamp, on the contrary I may even have a stab at designing one myself.

Could I ask Admin to remove my most recent comments please so that this thread can continue, if Steve agrees likewise?

To get the thread back on its original theme...

So far I have received replies from 4 members here who will buy the sheet; two more via PM; and LondonBus1 will buy a stamp if he likes the design (if we are all voting on our favourite then there's a fairly good chance he'll approve of the winning design).

So, being an optimist, I make that 7 members interested.  Out of 250+

You can make that 8 members buying the sheet.  I will buy 2 if there are enough printed to share out.

How many do you need to get to make it worth printing?

Not all of us have time to sit at a PC all day  !   Shocked

Some of us have lives.

I will take 2 sheets of the anniversary stamps, Colin.  I may not be the quickest to reply but if it helps keep the forum running I am pleasrd to add this year's stamp to my collection.  (Could someone make it sport-themed please!)

So, if Michael likes the design that makes 11 sheets spoken for!

Wow !

I don't have time to sit at the PC either. A full time job, Grandchildren living next door, cleaning, shopping, visiting Holocaust survivors, gardening and much more. All this not including stamps [or sleep!].

If all 250 members could post one message, with pictures, once a week [I reckon that takes about 5 minutes from our busy lives] then this would be quite a busy and interesting forum.

Sorry, not having time to sit in front of the PC is NOT an excuse.

Also, my apologies to those who do not like my post regarding the purchase of [as yet] unseen philatelic items. I do not usually buy stamps I do not need or like but am quite happy to instigate ideas and ways of helping the forum financially. There are many ways to do this and I am more than happy to help in that regard. But we do need posters for it, visitors who frequent the forum and post on the boards regularly.

Otherwise, why bother with forum stamps ?

I have been around the forum scene for so long I have seen just about everything. But maybe others haven't. So please read AND THINK ABOUT WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN and do not come blundering in with unnecessary comments.

Really no need.

I think it is a huge pity that in the very week that we get our forum name and web address published in the Cinderella Stamps Club Journal - of all weeks - the top thread when visitors, and potential members, take a look at the forum, contains this sort of silliness.

Yes we have 250 members and only a few ever feel confident enough to post regularly.

Perhaps if the behaviour of the 'regulars' was a little more exemplary the other 230 might come out of their shells.

All I originally wanted to know was whether anyone was interested in designing and/or buying a sheet of stamps this year, it really isn't a difficult request for an average grown-up to respond to.

At this moment in time, I make that 13 potential buyers of the finished sheet (it's not a firm commitment and no-one will be held to buying a sheet - for whatever reason) and, more importantly, we have at least 2 members willing to throw their hat in the ring with a design.

So thank you again to everyone who has responded positively!
