Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

Hi
Issue 4 will be sent out soon - as soon as I have found out when the next round of postal strikes will be.
This time its a story of lust, passion, affairs and unrequited love. Steamy stuff .... or would be if the stamps weren't the main thing.
It's not food if it has the same name in all languages.

Strikes over for now, so they've been posted.

Can I politely ask if anybody hasn't paid could they do so. A block payment results in less paypal fees overall, so that would be appreciated.

Cheers

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

The overnight stage from Wales to Derbyshire arrived on the dot thanks.

I've always yearned for these stamps since I heard rumours about them when I was a lad on grandfather Thomas' knee.  I never thought I'd be lucky enough to own the going, going, gone strip let alone the green with envy.

And they all seem to be the impossiby rare inverted-Q variety!  Does anyone else have these?

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

Steve - you are a star, and not just for the insight you have shown in a certain recent publication!

I hope you are keeping the artwork for these somewhere safe so that one day you can get the complete set printed properly and receive the wider recognition and credit you deserve.

Lovely stuff, and inevitably you now have to beat your own high standard on the next one...  :-)

I can't wait to show them to my Dad, a North Wales man and a railway enthusiast.  Thanks again

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

Mine arrived today- Brilliant as usual- where did that idea come from?
Question: What does the three plumes on the RM stamp signify (seem to recall that it has something to do with Wales, but can't remember what) ?
Quibble (minor): Would it be possible to get a less 'sticky' adhesive for your small tan Stamp Packets? The stuff on them now makes it impossible to open the packet without damaging it (i know, i know,i'm a bloody perfectionist, but i like to keep things as pristine as possible- think you'll understand what i mean!)  (Cheers)

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

The plumes are the Prince of Wales' Feathers.  The UK has stamps for GB (the definitives are the Machin heads that you'll know) and also regional issues for Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland
so that the conquered areas feel more included.

Keep the stamp safe as the regional definitives are rarer than hens' teeth commercially used.

Thanks Steve, thought it had something to do with POW, but wasn't real sure (memory is a slippery thing)
All of your envelopes are treasures, if only for the postmarks in English and Welsh (Celtic?)
Looking forward to future issues.

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

I've just remembered that England has its own Regional stamps too.  Tasteful images of roses and lions.

Now they really are like hens' teeth commercially used.

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

I had sent an email to Steve praising him for his last issue of the older Queen Victoria Penny black spoofs but I hadn't done so on this forum. I think that a strong sense of humour and imagination seems to run through some of the best cinderellas and certainly the ones that appeal to me most. I would reference the work of Colin Edwards/Alan Batley and Gerald M King. This is evident in Steve's cinderellas and I would agree that this is his best work yet (and haven't we said that before?).

Variations of the Penny Black are always going to appeal to me and it also proves that you don't have to perforate stamps to make them work. Especially if you are only going to produce them in small quantities. The cover looked just great and the back story just rounded off the authenticity.

Oh, and he only has himself to blame for the association of Wales and sheep!

Brilliant.

Daniel

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

Hi again

Issue 5 will be coming out soon. A leap forward in time from issue 4 and its the stamps behind a true tale of the paranormal.

And there'll be a couple of extra items in this issue. Get your magnifiers ready.

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

Issue 5 arrived today and, as ever, made me laugh.

Can anyone enlighten us all about the contents of the MOD letter?  I dare not open mine in case it contains alien spores which wipe out all life on Earth!

I've also been going cross-eyed over the new Diabolos (good word Steve).  As a clue to everyone you might need a ruler as well as a magnifier.  The Cantre'r Gwaelod II diablolo made me very "cross".

Cheers again Steve

Keith

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

Steve - it is brilliant! Again!

I think this whole set is your best yet - a mixture of styles and content but for all the right reasons, and all contributing to a great total concept.

What does 2010 hold for us I wonder, I can't wait.

I haven't found the Diabolos yet but I am leaving that until this evening...
Er, my Edwards has just fallen off...

I suggest you just slit open the top Keith, as it is supposed to have been read.

And good to hear you've found your first Diabolo. I wonder how many there were?

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

So.  Come on everyone.  I need some help here.

I am given to understand that there are 4 diabolos on each of the 2 stamps.  So far I have found 4 altogether.  Who has got others?  Look away if you don't want to see a spoiler

*******************SPOILER ALERT, SPOILER ALERT****************************

Cantre'r Gwaelod II

Two black shark fins in the water and a cross on the tower in the distance

Oernant Tramway

Dimensions of the frame are small all round

Edited to correct the spelling of dimensions.  "Dimentions"! Honestly.  I must have been thinking in Welsh.  Something like "Di mentions to Keith how duff Wales are at football".

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

Yes, another great set from Steve. The outer envelope was his best yet and I loved the Dan Dare(?) inspired UFO stamp. The MOD revenue type stamps were inspired and reminded me of David Horry's 'Top Secret' stamp. Plus another great cover and I agree that Keith should open his and let the rest of us know the contents (although I do recall the last time we had to open one of Steve's envelopes, there was a note inside admonishing us for opening mail addressed to someone else!).

As for his Diabolos, I also had the shark fins and the cross (weather vane?) on the tower stamp plus an Oernant Tramway stamp with the horse smoking a cigarette! Honest!

Brilliant stuff.

Daniel

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

Thanks Daniel.  I'd gone cross-eyed looking at the tramway stamp without finding a second Diabolo.  So that's two down & two to go.  I assume Steve sold more than 2 sets.  Or maybe not....

You'll kick yourselves with one diabolo on the horsetram stamp, and perhaps another

Re: An offer you can't refuse perhaps?

I see that Steve has been busy again and a new set of stamps has arrived unannounced. This time reminding us of the true spirit of Christmas; Hell and eternal damnation for any non-God fearing folk! As espoused by The Elisha Independent Chapel who produced a series of stamps for posting their congregations mail. The stamps feature Gustave Dore (type?) scenes of 'doom and gloom' and an example of one of the letters is included.

Again, another very nice outer envelope.

Brilliant as always.

Thanks Steve.

Daniel.

A lovely lot as always Steve.  Thanks and happy Christmas to you too.

It's the stories that make the stamps.  Keep them coming!
