I will be in touch with the winner to organise getting sheets printed...
And to find out whether they want their name made public, before announcing it here
Congratulations!

Congratulations to our winner. (And commiserations to the runners up)
I am looking forward to seeing the stamp in print, I think we all need a bit of colourat the moment!

Would you consider producing a commemorative "Three Years" cover for those of us who missed the first two years' winning stamps?
I would be interested, how about anyone else?

Perhaps we should have a competition to design the cover

OK...
Firstly I am not even sure I have enough stamps left over from previous years to do this - but I will have a look.
Secondly, does the cover include the variants issued?
Thirdly we have to take into account the thoughts and approvals of the designers of the previous winning stamps... Steve!
And fourthly there would be more time and cost involved to produce and distribute a cover.
I'd be happy to design a cover if we have enough interest and all the component parts and consents were there - but perhaps it might be better left until, maybe, year 5 and then make it a part of the whole package rather than a bit of an afterthought?
Thoughts, everyone?

I'd like one too Colin if it ever appears.
But is it wise? If there will not be many then is it going to cause grief and scuffling when only a few ever get into the wild?
And is it right? Should each year's be issued only to members current in that year? I think so. That will make the early ones more rare and maybe establish a secondary market in time. I can't think of any other obvious philatelic examples of rarity being overcome by issuing more. Or maybe the early ones could be reprinted (in new colours?) and used, as you suggest, on a Year 5 cover?

Ah, but these will be on covers and cancelled. The original mint singles and sheets will not be subject to inflation.

Thats probably asking too much of Colin. He has his hands full with just the stamps at the moment. Besides the year one stamp hasto be a blue triangle; not green, pink, or spotty

See! I was right. The scuffling has already started.
When I discovered, for example, Discworld stamps I didn't see it as unfair that I couldn't get hold of early rarities except by turning to eBay. It's just life.
My reprinting of the early ones was a suggestion for a year 5 issue and even Colin can sometimes cope with a 2 year lead time! Anyway, I was trying to save him work, not add to the load.

I catch your drift now Keith.
Catching up on early examples is a bugbear whatever you collect. But in a way thats half the fun of collecting, and this is increased when you do keep off eBay and trade your spares for missing items. Just being able to buy items is okay, but the thrill of the hunt wins hands down.
As for year 5, that would depend on there being two more yearly competitions. I note there were fewer entries this year. We have a number of people capable of stamp designs here. why don't you all join in? The more entries we have the better he winner will be. Okay someone has to come last, but that's the same in any competition. Doesn't stop thousands of sportspersons entering the Olympics does it. And its not that you would have to print and distribute them yourself. Just come up with a cacthy design. Not familiar with computer drawing programs? You have nearly a year to learn the basics before year 4.

Some comments - and apologies for these being rather disorganised but I am short of time...
I have no doubt that there will be excellent stamps winning the contest for years to come. There were fewer entrants this year but the standard was very high. There are plenty of people on the forum who make their own stamps and it's going to be the same brief every year so you all now have 11 months to design the next year's stamps (and/or the year after that too if you are feeling creative). AND you can work in teams so if you have a great idea for a stamp but not the skills to get it into a printable format (or vice versa!) then now is the time to talk to others about producing a joint effort.
From a design point of view I think a 3 year cover would look better than a five year cover. The winning stamps to date will look good together, but adding another 2 into the mix might be a bit too much.
From a rarity point of view, we haven't produced that many sheets in the past so tearing up another sheet isn't going to make a huge amount of difference to any secondary market. They will always be 'rare'. And as Steve has pointed out, it's not whole sheets we are distributing, just singles, cancelled and stuck down. And not variants either, just the standard stamps. [I will need to have a 'Forum' cancellation stamp made...]
The request came from a new-ish member but if it is going to cause ANY problems with the older members then let's stop it all right here and now and perhaps think ahead to something special for the five year anniversary. Perhaps a printed proofsheet instead which could also include the variants and wouldn't conflict with the gummed examples?
Nothing is set in stone. I only saw the thread after a few replies had already come in so have been trying to keep the conversation going to gauge feedback.
Let's discuss it here a little longer before any decisions are made.

A three year cover would be fine with me! As would a proof sheet with variants... Both would be even better!

I can see this is going to take two years to sort out! So I suggest we speed up the process by voting and this will also help Colin to know whether he has enough stamps left to make enough covers for everyone interested here, plus a few extra for those collectors who only pop in to the forum once a month.

Am I recollecting correctly, Colin, that you did an archive proof sheet of the first five years of the Isle of Vue Valentine cinderellas? If so, I thought that was a good item and showed the development of the designs over a useful period. Three years is probably too short for that purpose. On the other hand, as you suggest, squeezing the first five years of forum birthday stamps onto one envelope would be quite tight and possibly not aesthetically pleasing just to put them all, different from each other as they are likely by then to be, just close up next to each other so they can be franked. Just my tuppenceworth on the options suggested by parrot and hence my vote which I have added to the running total below.

Thanks Joolz (and everyone else, too). It is very helpful to see what people want (and their reasons why) but I am worried that this process might turn the annual forum stamp into an expensive item when the original plan was that it should be affordable and collectable for all forum members. I wouldn't want an excess of items to put people off collecting the stamps at all.
If I had to express a preference it would be for an A5 proof of the three years' stamps - but overall I would suggest we keep it simple and limit production to the usual FREE single stamp for every member who sends in an sae, with stampsheets available for those who want to guarantee getting the standard and variant versions.
Any members who wre keen to buy previous years' issues could post on the 'Wanted' page. I know there were several members who bought more than one sheet previously who might be tempted to sell, and the designer of previous years might also be a good source to contact, having been given several sheets as their prize.

I am going to say what a lot of collectors might want to say but don't want to embarrass themselves!
I can't afford very much at the moment, money is tight, and I would be sorry to see new items produced which might mean I can't have one of everything I would like. The free stamps is a wonderful idea and I will definitely be sending in an sae for one of those. But I already doubt I could afford a stampsheet and I defintitely will not be buying anything else.
I have cut right back on my spending and stamps are a luxury. Now that it looks as if there might be an extra item for year 5 I know I can expect that and can budget accordingly, although hopefully I will have a proper job again by 2015 :-)

Based on the above information I don't think we should be producing a 3 years cover or proof BUT I take on board that a five-year commemorative is clearly a popular request.

It has been well worth the wait.
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Carole Fletcher for producing such an elegant and colourful design.
Could I have my usual 3 sheets please Colin?

Is it OK again to put a couple of sheets aside for me and I'll settle up when I get paid at the end of the month?
That's a great-looking sheet so well done to everyone involved

I've just noticed the caption on the corner of the sheet.
Are there really 32 members here who produce stamps? I am surprised there were not more entries!

Hmmm - that does sound like a lot, perhaps it refers to members having ever produced stamps, not just in the last year?

I am a newbie so could you tell me if there is a cut-off date for ordering the forum anniverary stampsheets?

It would be very helpful if anyone interested bought their anniversary stamps sooner rather than later as I have production costs to pay, but the stamps will be available until they run out...

A big thank-you to everyone who has ordered and paid for their forum anniversary stamps and sheets already.
The first batch should be in the post today - and I will make sure that all of you get a little something extra on the cover as a thank you for your prompt response.

Mine arrived over the weekend and I must say that the stamp looks particularly vibrant in sheet format.
And as a bonus the variant was sufficiently easy that even I can spot it!
Well done to the designer but also to the printer, the perforator and the project manager.

They are beautiful. I love the sheet. I also loved the new Quadrant stamp on the envelope, A White Lion? Looks to be one of a new series

Just wanted to say thanks for the nice things folks have said
Would have posted something sooner but have been out of the country for a bit on holiday, and have not seen the stamps in print myself yet as Colin was kindly holding on to them untill my return.
And a big thank you to Colin for all his hard work.

The stamp has printed remarkably well, the design really sparkles on the paper. I am very pleased we now have three years of anniversary stamp designs, each so very different to the last.
It's always a pleasure to put the sheets together, to work with the printer and perforators and most of all to see the stamps evolve from the initial design submission throught to the printed version, particularly when they are so well received by the other members here.
I am already looking forward to next year's stamps - no-one has the excuse of not having had time to think about those! Still another 10 months available for that, lets make it a bumper year!

Hurrah! Mine have arrived too, and yes, they do justice to the design. Well done both.
Now its lookout-time for a new Laernu Quadrants issue.

Thanks Colin, stamps arrived this morning. It is a lovely stamp Carole and it has printed beautifully.
Are there really only so few of us who have bought it? Perhaps everyone else is just too shy to say they have received theirs?
Support your forum and BUY THIS STAMP!

What did everyone else get on their envelopes? My stamps were hand-delivered so no special stamps for me Any chance of some pictures?
Beautiful stamps Carole, and also some interesting facts about the forum around the selvedge!

Correct me if I am wrong but I suspect there are still stamps and sheets available from all the previous year's anniversary stamp offerings... and will be for some time
