Mine came today and I am well pleased with the contents. A bit of everything and a bit more. And wil be going over them with a magnifier just in case.

I will get together a list of spares for trading soon. Hope others will as well.

Meanwhile, in addition to the 2006-12 Sportens, I have been looking at the other Laernu stamps pages on AskMe, and they are in dire need of updates and corrections. These Mixed Bags may have turned up something not listed on AskMe, so can you post something up here please. I have a nice miniature sheet of 4 White Lion from the Hats set, and a 5D blue Laernu Dragon triangle in a deeper shade than I have seen previously.
Those Dragon triangles come in several forms, beside perf and imperf. Some came from a sheet with all four values se-tenant, and those do not have a little letter in the top diamond. And some with that letter have a creamier background and the line that separates CENTRO and POSTAGE from the central image is much bolder. I have only seen a red and a blue of those.
Nothing particularly new on the Sportens though, apart from the Three Cricketers without protection in bright mauve and without H&S overprint.

Has anybody noticed anything odd about the 2F Red from the Quadrants? And I am not referring to the bat guano print flaw. Its to do with the values on the stamp.

. . . Steve asked, "Has anybody noticed anything odd about the 2F Red from the Quadrants? And I am not referring to the bat guano print flaw. Its to do with the values on the stamp." Well. now you come to mention it, I had always known that the values were printed slightly differently from value to value, but have always thought that it was just part of the Issue design.

The 2 and 8 fillis have the 'f' on both sides of the numeral, the 4 fillis incorporates the 'f' into the numeral and the 6 fillis has the 'f' on the right of the numeral - or at least that is the case on my sheets. Wink

Thanks Peter for bringing this to my attention. Each value has a unique way of displaying the value, much like the original 4 values of Merchants Guild Discworld stamps.
What I was looking at though was that the value always faces outwards of the corners, apart from one corner on the 2F value. I wondered if this was a variant but hadn,t got a sheet to confirm this or not. On the large format stamp this anomoly is also present. But in the Sticky bits I got a block of 4 of the 2F and all have the one 'rogue' value.

you have to be careful with these stamps when mounting in an album because they are diamond shaped but the animal designs are repeated three times, each over 120 degrees. So they look odd if different corners point downward.

And just to wrap up on the Quadrants I notice there is a colour change for the 2F and 4F values from the small to klarge format.

Similar story here from a couple of the new mixed bags. Lots of great stuff and I will try to list any items that might be of interest to others in terms of being not afaik previously reported. The only downside was that I was hoping that there might be some of the Laernu Regional Issue singles but there were none in mine. Did anyone else find any in theirs? If so, maybe there will be some scope for swaps in due course as I now have some more of the Laernu Quadrants and Laernu Festival of Hats which are series that I haven't tried to collect.

I did get one of the 1F Regional (or should that be Continental?) of the Melanesian man with a camera, which is a duplicate.

Regarding the 2f Quadrant stamp, I can confirm from the sheet that one corner value is facing inwards on each stamp but this appears to run contrary to the other stamps in the series which seem to have the value facing out in each corner.

You may be right. They're called the "Laernu Regional Issues" on askmeaboutstamps so I went for that terminology. But I have also seen them described as the Continental series.

That's one of those that I don't yet have as a single so maybe we can find a swap. I will post a list of my duplicates when I get the chance.

As I said I would in one of my posts above, the following are the stamps that came out of my two little bags of sticky bits that I thought might be worth bringing to people's attention.

Two yellow Laernu Dragons with letters in the top cartouche - one H, one Q. I hadn't noticed these letters on the Dragons previously although I know that Steve mentioned them in a recent post. I have taken a look at the various Dragons items that I have. My perfed mixed sheet (12 stamps, three each of red, blue, green and yellow) has empty cartouches, or at least cartouches which are just lightly shaded (like in the area around the numeric value of the stamp) in the same colour as the stamp. My perfed red dragons sheet (12 stamps) has two sequences of letters (DEFGHI and PQRSTU) in the cartouches on the same light blue shaded background as on the red stamp on the mixed sheet. My perfed blue dragons sheet (12 stamps) has darkly shaded cartouches in the same colour as the main background colour of the stamp. I'd never realised there was such a lot of variation in the cartouches in this issue!

A joined pair of 2007 Isle of Vue cabbage commons with the fourteen stamp to left and the two stamp to right with a "white spot" type error on the first "E" of "FOURTEEN".

Some more Wadstock colour variants. Not great (as I have often had to say before) on colour perception but I'm pretty sure that I now have five shade variants cf the common for the 1 wad stamp and three shade variants cf the common for the 5 wad stamp.

A 2009 Halloween perfed "La Mort de Timbres" stamp. I've previously only had this French variant and three other language variants (English, German and Spanish) unperfed in various colours.

A shade variant (lighter green) of the Stonehenge 1degW common.

Two "Corsican Dance" singles - one purple, one brown.

Shade variants of the £100 and £5 stamps from the £6175 series - I already had one each of the £100 and £5 stamps and I got one more of each in the little bags of sticky bits which are slightly different shades compared to the ones I already had. (What I really needed to find though were singles of the £6,000 and the £70 stamps.)

Did anyone get any Christmas stamps?  I'm sorry I can't scan here.

I have two different designs - a very happy Turkey and a waving Santa, driving a car.

There were indeed two Xmas designs, and both had a variant. Santa is giving a rude gesture in his variant, and the turkey stamps have different coloured parcels, but I am unsure which is the variant having only one example of each.

Again these need to migrate to AskMe

What colours Joolz? I have the English imperf in green, and green and brown, plus Dearth of stamps in a pinky-purple.

You couldn't possibly supply scans of these, and the sizes. There seems to be a number of design and size variations going on with these, as well perfed and frilly edged stamps!

I'll have to ask my wife what the colours are. I'll post when I've been able to check.

Here are the scans of various shade variants that I have in my Laernu et al collection.

Wadstock 1 wad (from L to R) - common, mythprint, five (?) shade variants - although, looking at it today when scanning it, I think the one at far right may in fact just be the common again.

Wadstock 5 wads (from L to R) - common, three shade variants - if anyone has a spare of the mythprint in the standard colour as on the sheet, I would be interested in swapping for something.

Halloween 2009 (from L to R) - "Halloween" common, "Death of Stamps" imperf, "la Mort de Timbres" perfed and imperf (same colour), "La Muerte de Sellos" imperf, "Tod der Stempel" imperf

£100 stamp - two shade variants

£5 stamp - two shade variants

Corsican Dance - purple common, brown shade shade variant

Wonderful stuff Joolz.

I think makes it at least 11 different colour ways on the 1wad stamp, and at least 6 on the 5wad stamp, over and above the sheet issue. I would not be surprised to find that each one was a one off!

Has anybody got any different ones they could post up?

Sorry, forgot to do this when I first replied to this post but I borrowed a ruler from my son's school pencil case last night and measured them. All four of mine are the same size, standard perfs and I measure them at 37mm wide x 43mm high. Slightly depends on how you include/exclude the width of the perfs themselves so possibly plus/mins 1mm on each measurement.

Now I am wondering where I got the information regarding smaller versions of the 6175 stamps. They did pop out in two versions. The ealy versions were (sorry Colin) of a poorer print quality, but made up for that by being cut from the sheets with deckle cut scissors, each value with a different pattern. The later versions (were they extras in a bonus brown envelope for another issue?) looked more professional quality and were conventionally perfed. The designs for these had been reworked from the prototypes. But all of mine are 37 x 43mm too.
So has anybody got smaller versions of these, or were these a figment of my imagination?

I was just weak and got tempted again. Will someone buy the rest before I weaken again.

Meanwhile I have a few days grace before the itch starts again while I start looking at my new stamps.

I suggest you look at The Laernu Festival of Hats closely. The sheets had stamps with letters in the bottom corners and LAERNU, in individual ways for each stamp, squeezed into the top corners.
But some stamps have a intricate geometrical design in the top corner. I thought these were limited to some variant stamps that had S and L in the lower corners, but have also found these on stamps with the regular letters. As this arrangement is also found on the 4 stamp minisheets it may be the individual stamps came from some of those. But they may come from some larger sheets.

I can also report a Sporten-type print error variation on the Old Fox hat stamp, with pale vertical stripes.

And don't forget to check these for the regular sheet variants too

There was a time I'd have bought the lot, but I have to be frugal now.

It's taken a while but here is a scan of the set of four deckle-cut stamps in the £6175 series that I received on an envelope from Colin in either March or May 2009. They have been franked with the Laernu frank. However, they seem to be the same size as all the other perforated versions of the £6175 stamps that I have, that is 37mm x 43mm, and I can't find any amongst those I have that are either smaller or larger than this format.

I am almost happy that those Deckle cut 6175 stamps match mine "perforation" wise. If they all had different patterns on the same value would they be different stamps?

. . . yes, I had a Bad Blintz 50 bizot stamp in my last pack from Colin with 6175 perfed into the stamp.

It will be going up into my swaps when I have finished the list - probably early next week.

Did anybody else get one of the copper foil 2005 Sportens?
Only 15 of these were sold originally I believe and so far of those I have heard about have been different stamps, and those can be seen on the http://www.askmeaboutstamps.com/?page_id=253 - AskMe page . . Most if not all were modelled on the variants of the stamps. I am keen to know if they are all variants and if there was more than one of each design.

Is your 21 the rower? Which way is he looking? Left or right

Previously on Sporten Hunt the copper foil large size stamps identied were:
Footballer with leg outstretched variation, which you seem to have. (was this already in your collection, and therefore probably the same one I have listed? Or was it from the Little Sticky Bags?)
Hockey - no player variation
Hockey - untied shoe lace variation
Hockey - players back to back variation
Yours is a new one. Is it the left hand forreground player missing or the right hand player missing?
Diver - blad wig wig on side of pool variation
Skater - hovering variation.

All these will be on the updated AskMe site as soon as possible, but in the meantime any further information most welcome.

Sorry for the delay in doing this. I had an operation for a detached retina on Monday and so sitting for long periods at a pc is off the agenda for a while. For example, for the first week I have to lay on my left side for 50 minutes of every hour!

Normal service will be resumed when I'm able.

Got mine - too fun!! Big smile It's been a long time since I've enjoyed sorting through a little envelope of stamps.  I've gone through what I received and have done my best to check them against what I have in album and what's on the AskMe page.  Bear with me, I'm easily confused!

I diligently took pictures to post here, but Photobucket will not cooperate with me anymore!  So, here's what I've got.

-An Isle of Vue pair one blue fading to tan with an all tan, no chalice or sword
-A 2007 Isle of Vue Cabbage red - but a brown version
-2008 Isle of Vue triangle, lighter version
-Wadfest Day the Music Died, green on the outside turning brown and then burgundy in the center
-2 Wadstocks, 1 all purple on the frame, 1 green frame
-2 of the 2p color St. Hilary
-2 joined green dragons, a brighter/lighter green than the ones on the sheet
-blue dragon, brighter blue
-Green Penny Blank with colorful dots
-set of 3 different joined Stonehenge, the 49, 42 & 29
-4 Sporten Batzenbowlens, 3 light purple, 1 dark purple, 2 show something on his back, a bow?
-1 Racketten with 2 oars and yellow bands
-some very cool labels, a Santa label, and 2 of Jack's skydiving stamps

I should probably put this somewhere else, but on two recent envelopes I have some Sportens I don't think are on the AskMe site.

-3 Peddalunpuffens in light blue
-a Twangthunken with yellow stripes
-a dark green tightrope walker Nolooken-soemthing?
-2 of a guy on gymnastics rings, 1 all red, 1 red with a blue and purple stripe

If anyone would like me to email the pictures, just let me know!  Sorry about not being able to post them here.

Sounds like a really great haul, Susanne! Thumbs Up

I'm going to get organized (she typed with a straight face) and figure out what spares I have so I can start swapping!

Get yourself well Keith - we are all grateful for everything you and Steve do for AskMe but there is nothing more important than taking care of your eyes. Wink

I missed that!  So sorry about your eye Keith!  The only thing that's important is your recovery.  Take it easy, the stamps will still be here when you're ready.

It's taken a while but here is a scan of the set of four deckle-cut stamps in the £6175 series that I received on an envelope from Colin in either March or May 2009. They have been franked with the Laernu frank. However, they seem to be the same size as all the other perforated versions of the £6175 stamps that I have, that is 37mm x 43mm, and I can't find any amongst those I have that are either smaller or larger than this format.

A new variety of the £6175 stamps seems to have appeared. Same size as the others, but these have a double border. There is a background shading behind the design and a further white border. The net result is a smaller stamp image.

This is a new colour for the £70, but it also exists in the regular green on cream variety. I've not seen any other of the values in this format. Has anybody else seen them?

I've just done a nice trade of some of Colin's bits and bobs with Susanne and she has sent me an interesting variant of the 2p St Hilary that I don't think has been previously reported.

The variant is the stamp on the right of the image below and I think the stamp on the left is the common.

The stamp on the left, which I pulled from one of Colin's Little Bags of Sticky Bits, is the only 2p St Hilary I had and, as I don't have a sheet Cry, I couldn't compare it against anything. So, I had simply assumed it was the common, as I don't think it is any of the variants currently listed on askmeaboutstamps. However, in light of the new variant, it could presumably be another different variant rather than a common.

Anyways, the variant that Susanne very kindly sent me has the blue triangle (at least I think it is a blue triangle) being held by St H in her left hand replaced by a trinagular blank.

I have spotted that and other varieties. Actually there are so many on the sheet that spotting the common or basic stamp is the big task. All will be revealed when AskMe gets its revisions

Oh goodness - that's even more work when I get my new, bionic, eye!

I have a sheet of the 1p and 2p.  As I recall, every stamp on the 2p sheet is a "variant" so it is, as Steve says, difficult to spot the basic stamp - or maybe even to decide what the basic stamp is!!  Maybe on revision I'll can scan it in big and make it clickable to expand further and you can all play at "spot the variant"!

At least there are only 18 stamps on the 2p sheet rather than the 38 on the 1p

Am I right in remembering that these 1p stamps were not intended to be sold as individual stamps but were a way of testing the software updates being written for the printing of the Discworld stamps?

If that is the case then are there any variations in print quality or content between the sheets? ie are they all from the same print run or are there a few sheets of smaller runs as the testing progressed?

I didn't make them with the intention of selling them at all, and yes, many of the variants were produced as a way of staying occupied at the printers while stampsheets were being set up or run (sit looking idle at our printers for too long and you were instantly put on tea-making duty...). It was only when visitors to the studio thought they were fun that we thought we should page them up properly and sell a few sheets.

There was only one, small, print run of the 2p and the 1p.

I've been meaning to post these for a while. They're items that I haven't seen mentioned before. The first must come from an uncut sheet of sheets of the Festival of Hats stamps. The second must be the world's smallest miniature sheet, possibly a trial.

I'm pretty sure that Penny Jack was produced for Wilfred. WB in the top cartouches are his initials.

When the bat guano flaw was first proposed was it named reflecting the character name used in the Dr Strangelove film - Colonel 'Bat' Guano, played by Keenan Wynn?

I have 2 revelations to make here. Firstly, you can buy bat guano in tubs from Amazon.

Secondly, and, perhaps, more importantly the so-called bat guano flaw, originally reported by me, no longer exists. Therefore, it must never have existed. I can only assume that it was a speck of paper that had adhered to the stamp and has since become dislodged.

I realise that this will be a major disappointment for collectors but can only apologise Broken Heart
