In my latest job lot of goodies from deepest, darkest, Suffolk were two crude Wonderland stamps which Gerald described as being "Bourdi forgeries".

When I asked Gerald he said that Bourdi was "a French nutter who forged all sorts of Cinderellas including mine way back in the sixties".

The two I now have (I will post scans when I get chance) are "taken from original essays (try-outs)which somehow leaked out. They were generally imperf and on gummed paper, all sorts of colours employed".

"There are other take-offs by a deceased French collector Jacques Riboulet (Alice only). He was a member of the Lewis Carroll Society; formed a large collection of Alice material including most of mine, with some drawn by himself; exhibited at Stampex a few years ago (no prizes); and got a large spread in the leading French Stamp Mag of the time."

I also spotted some awful Lundy stamps on eBay recently which were speculatively attributed to Gerald but which clearly were not. Of these Gerald says "Yes I believe there are some fakes of my stuff out there -- mainly the QV "line-engraved". But there are two legit items which preceded my efforts , a 1d black and 2d blue inscribed LUNDY, check letters JA; these were made by john Aitcheson long before I started. I had no idea they existed when I planned my assault on Lundy".

Has anyone seen any of these and/or able to post images? It might be interesting to collect forgeries of spoofs!! Daniel - do you have any? It sounds just up your street:)

Keith

I too have seen those GK Lundy stamps on eBay, and even the pictures there showed them to be rather poor, and quite unlike Gerald's normal quality.

I have a Wonderland stamp that does not appear in the catalogues that is a very simple design and may be a Bourdi. Must see if I can find a scan.

I have a 3 questionable Wonderland stamps that don't appear in any of Gerald's catalogues that I have seen. They are high values with one of them apparently being signed by the Mad Hatter, revenue style. The quality is not great but the black and green on white stamps are gummed. They measure about 1.25 inches wide by 1.5 inches high:

Jon Aitchison is an acknowledged expert on Lundy philatelic matters having produced a catalogue in 2009. Here is a postcard depicting his Lundy versions of 1d red-brown and 2d blue used on the postcard and mint, both perforated. Plus his versions of 1d black and 2d blue imperforate. But his versions are denominated in Lundy puffins
