I have just listed on ebay some new Dead Letter Office stamps.

There are two issues - the 'Hand of Fate' and a resurrection of the original 'Grim Reaper' stamp issued in 2009 - but smaller and in a deep dark blue as I always felt the original was a bit too large and label-like.

I couldn't decide on a colourway for the Hand of Fate so we have ended up with the three most commonly associated with Halloween - orange, purple and green. However, if you buy all 3 sheets you will get a FREE additional mixed sheet.

Both issues have variant stamps.

Also for sale are Mixed Bags containing some RANDOM previous issues in adition to the new issues, including the Death of Stamps series, the original 2009 Grim Reaper stamps, some variant pairs and tete-beche pairs of the new issues and some stamps cancelled with the 'Halloween' and Dead Letter Office' marks, plus some of those Wyrd Byrd Halloween stamps that everyone seemed to like so much. There is an average of 10 stamps in each bag, there won't be many bags as I do not have many of the older stamps left - when they are gone they are gone!

And a colour test set of the Grim Reaper Resurrection, printed on the gummed paper but imperforate. However I have perforated and split some of the stamps from this sheet and they are included in the mixed bags.

I still haven't got the hang of the postage costs setup on ebay - I have tried to set it so that it only charges once regardless of how many items are bought but it has defeated me again. But fear not I will refund any overspend via Paypal, you shouldn't have to pay more than £2.65 for the recorded P&P, or £8.50 for overseas tracked.

I hope you like the stamps and as always if you have any queries please PM me.  Don't forget that any comments made in this thread are removed after 30 days...   Wink

I have received my order and am well pleaed. Always great to have some new stamps from Colin, especially when there are the mixed bags attached too. I am still going through the contents of the 'bag', but have found new items regarding the Death of Stamps issues.

I would be interested in hearing what others have found in their mixed bags, as I am still trying to list all of Colin's issues. The Death of Stamps 'set' never got a full issue, and originally appeared imperforate on mailings, so there is likely to be some I have not yet come across. The re are a number of colour alternative, and have just noticed that the text in the bottom banner can be in different typefaces. What other variation lurk out there? And now some Halloween perfins too!
I will be offering some trades lateron the appropriate Forum page - once I have decided what I have actually got spare.

btw, has anybody spotted a variant on the Hand of Fate stamps yet. I haven't but they are likely to be quite subtle.

A quick headsup that I shall be taking these items down from ebay at the weekend so if anyone wants these stamps after that they will have to contact me here by PM.  Halloween is now long gone!

Sheets are still available, plus I have a very few mixed bags available which were set aside for members here but not paid for - PM me if you are interested.

Mine haven't arrived yet. Really good service from Royal Mail yet again. I bet someone has stolen them as why else would something be sent signed for if it wasn't valuable.
Even if they do get to my home town in the next three days I will be faced with the prospect of having to collect in person at the sorting office as I will be out of the house having postponed things in the vain hope of catching the postie on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. As that sorting office will be filled with people collecting their Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, as well as their Xmas shopping I will probable leave it till the year 2020 when the queues will be under 1 hour.

I send items 'signed for' so that I have some proof of postage and arrival.

I have had a number of packages for ebay items that were sent by the standard, unrecorded, method that I have been told did not arrive and have had to refund payments.  Admittedly this has happened more frequently in the USA, Sweden and Israel than it does in the UK but it has made me reluctant to send anything unrecorded.

I certainly do not post items via recorded delivery in order to draw the attention of thieves! In this instance it is because I cannot replace the contents.

If I was churning out hundreds of stamps and could simply put another envelope in the post then I would be much happier sending via standard post - but I cannot and therefore have to rely on the honesty of the delivery services.  When the system lets us down we all lose out.

I can do nothing about the individual circumstances of addressees however. If you are unable to go to the Sorting Office the Royal Mail will always redeliver on another day of your choosing - which ought to be quicker than waiting until 2020.

I have checked the tracking details on the Royal Mail website and it only says that the envelope has been received at our local post office at Brooke, and no other tracking beyond that.  It was sent 2nd Class signed for on the 29/11/19 (Friday) and I took it to the Post Office myself and saw it go into the bag.

If it doesn't arrive in the next couple of days I will make sure you get a complete refund.

My apologies Steve, and thank you for letting everyone else here know about the problem when we have been discussing the late delivery privately since Monday - I suppose there is always the possibility someone here might be able to help get your envelope delivered quicker.

Ouch

I have become a postman since I first registered my username and so i feel honour bound to try to shed some light here.

If the item was posted second class signed for on Friday then Monday will be too soon to expect it to arrive. Few economy services operate over the weekend and unless it was posted locally to the intended recipient I would not expect it to arrive until at least the following Wednesday.  This time of year, particularly the weekend when many people post their Christmas cards, a second class item might be even slower.

If you require an item to arrive on any given day, and particularly next day (as in Friday to Monday) then Special Delivery is the only service that will be guaranteed to arrive wthin that timescale.  If you had paid a surcharge on the Friday then there is a good chance it would have been delivered on the Saturday but this can vary across the UK.

Either way Monday is much too early to be having conversations about late delivery.

What is upsetting about this post is the assumption that the postal service workers would deliberately open and steal from any envelope, either because it has a 'signed for' sticker or not.  There are not many examples of theft amongst postman and these are usually rooted out quickly and prosecuted severely in this country although I can't speak for other countries' postal services.  I have heard many people say that simply sticking down the edges of an envelope with sticky tape is enough to attract the attentions of the unscrupulous but this is also silly and doesn not stand up to closer scrutiny.  Most postworkers do not now have time to do much more than read an address at any stage of the delivery process, the idea that anyone can assess the value of its' contents during handling is ludicrous.

There is also an assumption that because there are temporary seasonal staff working for the Royal Mail at the moment there is a greater likelihood of theft but this is also unfounded.  It is disappointing to see such casual accusations on this forum.

If you have any proof that the item has been stolen then you should contact your local sorting office and make a complaint which I can assure you will be very thoroughly investigated. You would be surprised how few employees would be directly responsible for handling your post and they are no more likely to harbour any ill intentions than the average worker anywhere else.

I hope you will set the record straight when the stamps have arrived.

The stamps are still on ebay as I had some late orders from people who had no idea about our forum - so shall be keeping the listings up until the end of the month.

Still plenty of sheets available - but no more mixed bags  :-(
