Anyone going?

And how can we all identify ourselves so that any new members/visitors can easily spot us in the coffee bar this year?  Assuming people want to be spotted of course!

Me too.
As  to Identifying ourselves as DW stamp collectors, perhaps we could attend in DW costume?

Only Kidding. Smile

It shouldn't be beyond out skills to make some sort of standee or flag for the table we wind up occupying?

Probably me too. How about a sign on the table saying Cinderella Stamps Forum?

We might even attract new members!

No one will mind if you turned up in costume Charles... it would certainly make it easier to identify our table  :-)

I would offer to make one but as I'm usually one of the later arrivals there, it wouldn't be much help. Any volunteers?

Warm your T-shirt up on a radiator before you put in on. Simple!

I should be there. We've just been working out which weekend during half-term we are going to go to Newcastle so that Robbie can watch his beloved Toon play and fortunately it's going to be the following weekend for the match against Bristol City. I'll probably aim to be there from about 11am. What time are other people going to aim to get there?

Posted By: Steve
Date Posted: 22 January 2017 at 07:41
Depends on what time I get up. I will catch a train from Crewe so two or more each hour, so I don't need to aim for a specific one.

Cry

Last year no one spotted me ! The only consolation this time is that I now know what Steve looks like having met him at Congress !

Hopefully I will be in the UK but nothing certain yet, it depends on my Mother and her house. I will be there if the trip goes ahead........but I'm not going to jump up and down this year !!!!

I hope you are all more chatty than you are on the forum......otherwise we'll be drinking a lot of coffee !!

I don't think many of the members come to the forum just to 'chat'. There are better places to do that - Facebook, Twitter etc; and many of the members who come to Stampex rarely ever contribute here, yet their enthusiasm for their collecting areas is very evident in person.

There is usually a group of us who meet in the coffee bar during the morning and have done so now for around ten years.

Over those years several collectors have joined our table who had not met us before - I think we are usually the more vocal of all the tables of people gathered there so should be easy enough to find.

I think fifth round weekend is the previous (i.e. Stampex) weekend. We had in fact seriously considered going that weekend, which would have been a real shame to miss the annual forum outing to Islington, but the Championship fixture is against Aston Villa, which will be a big game, being two big clubs and both relegated from the Premier League last season. Then Sky then selected it for live broadcast and moved it from Saturday afternoon to Monday evening which didn't work for us to go up to even though it is Robbie's half-term break. If we had gone for it and booked the match and rail tickets, and then Newcastle had beaten Oxford in the Cup, that would have been a total nightmare as everything would have changed again and I'd probably have had to book everything all over again including new travel arrangements. All in all, it's worked out perfectly that we chose the following weekend anyway. Now all they have to do is to beat Bristol City and Robbie will be happy.

I will be consoling myself with visits to other events as Stampex appears to have come just a bit soon for my trip. Another time I hope.

If anyone is around near the Southern England Stamp Show in Farnborough, Hampshire on March 10th-11th then do pop in. Looks to be a nice show.

Profuse apologies for not making it to Stampex today. Circumstances conspired...
I was looking forward to meeting up with you all.... and having a look at Colin's new Valentines issue. Never mind. Unhappy

I've received Colin's annual Stampex card posted at the event. And as usual its adorned with a mix of cinderella esoterica.

Nice to see that some Zeppelins and Ugly Cats got perforated, but the real teaser is a new Sporten - series 3. I am struggly to decipher the sport's Laernuan name but think it is Hissenbuntzen. I hope she knows how to wield that stick.

As its likely that each card had a different mix why not show us what you got.

The Sporten(s) are a work in progress - prototypes if you like - printed, like the Zeppelins and the Cats to test the quality of a new printer and paper.  I will put some of the prototypes in 'Sticky bits' mixed bags later in the year - hopefully, by then, with some other new designs.

Just wanted you all to know 'I Aten't Dead'...  When I get a decent source of stamp paper there will be a flurry of new issues  :-)

The Forum Anniversary stamps will be available soon and will be numbered and VERY limited!

HI, just to say a big thank you Colin for your excellent Stampex card. I came back from a short holiday last night planning the clothes washing schedule and found your card which cheered me up greatly!

Nice stamps with a great touch of humour, god, this is sounding like a review - I will stop immediately.

Genuinly appreciate it though...

Hi Steve,

The card Colin kindly sent me bears the same stamps as yours. It's nice to see the creations of my fellow forum members in the flesh as you can appreciate the craft and the humour in them. Helped by your commentary and observations on the individual stamps, Sure is an ugly cat !

There ARE differences!

The cards received a great reception from the Royal Mail team who were hand-cancelling them.  In previous years there has been a giant Post Box at Stampex where I could simply drop the cards in and walk away quickly - but this year the box was gone and anything requiring a hand-cancel had to be handled in person and in a maximum of 3 per person, so I had to speak to the Royal Mail staff behind the counter, and explain the relevance of each individual stamp, and the forum, and the card itself. I was very pleased to hear that the previous years' cards were remembered and our conversation lead to some interesting developments which I intend to take advantage of in years to come.

Thanks to both of you for your comments. I sent out over 20 cards so it's nice to know a couple of them arrived safely  Wink

Sorry to be slow to upload the image of my card. Busy week last week and busy weekend (trip to Newcastle). There are some obvious differences to Steve's card on mine, and perhaps some less obvious ones.

Thanks Julian.
The new Sportens begin to to look interesting. Same value, same sport but different coliurs - a full blown issue once Colin has sorted a gummed paper supply
and different se-tenants / tete-beches of the 5 Anniv stamps
