I have clubbed these two subjects together because many Philatelic Societies and Stamp Clubs ran small Exhibitions alongside their 'meets' or themselves did the organizing of local Shows. While most can be distinguished from the other, the attractiveness of many of these items leads me to believe they are best put together.

Anyone who has any Sheets, Labels, cards or covers from Clubs or Exhibitions please show them here.

Like their British counterparts, many items were issued in limited numbers and can be quite pricey. Some of the full sheets from earlier Exhibitions are way outside of my pocket........but it doesn't stop me searching !! Tongue During the Stamp Centenary year 1940, a whole host of clubs and Shows issued sheets or labels depicting the Penny Black and these would make a whole collection in themselves.

So let's have some fun with the U.S.A.

McKINLEY STAMP CLUB, 9th ANNUAL EXHIBITION AND BANQUET, CANTON, OHIO.

The McKinley Stamp Club joined the APS in 1927 [Chapter 11] and are still going strong today. They held their 84th Exhibition earlier this year.

The sheets below were produced for their 9th Annual Exhibition and celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Penny Black.

The sheets are stunning, some of the best in USA Exhibition items I have seen. Produced by the House of Farnam who also produced First Day Covers under the name of Artmaster.

The sheets show the McKinley National Memorial in Canton, a monument to the 25th President, William McKinley who lived in the town.

The following 2 sheets were issued by the New Jersey Philatelic Federation for the 1938 Stampex Event held in Newark.

The sheets show Robert Treat, Co-founder of Newark [New Ark, 1666] over a Newark Skyline with an Aeroplane hopefully taking visitors to the National Stamp Exhibition !!

The Coliseum in New York opened in 1956 and along with a Photographic Exhibition, stamps took centre stage in this brand new, if rather plain-looking building.

The Fifth International Exhibition, FIPEX was hugely popular with large numbers of visitors from both USA and Worldwide. A number of souvenirs were produced and I will endeavor to show others another time. To start off, this set of labels shows the new venue. The set was also issued perforated.

It's been a while since I added to this, and it's always good to see some colour, even if not in your collecting area ! Wink

Before we continue with the USA tour I would like to say that adding to this collection has been very tough going, sometimes impossible. this present time is one of those occasions.

Lots of good material around in the  Cinderella arena at present, more so than at any time in years in my experience. But prices are high for many items and those in the USA Exhibition topic is one of them. In the last 2 weeks I have bid on over 80 items and have been successful 5 times ! Embarrassed I am bidding a lot higher than I normally do due to a dearth of such material but I still lose out.

Times are hard !

The sheets below came from the underground market in Charing Cross. Another fine example of the care and trouble taken by Organizers in the USA for show Souvenirs.

APS StampShows. [National Philatelic Exhibition]

The first American Philatelic Society [APS] event was held in New York in 1886. Every year since then [except 1943] they have held their National Exhibition, now StampShow, in a different city in the US.

2016 will see the 130th event and will be held in the Oregon Convention Centre in Portland.

Many attractive souvenirs have been produced over the years, especially the earlier years, and none more so than this beautiful set from the 1936 event in Omaha, Nebraska. Features the superb printing of the American Bank Note Company.

I do like the two new posts. Very attractive stamps, especially the Omahas. I see that they are printed by the ABNC, which is responsible for other classic Cinderellas. A slight shame that it is the same artwork for all 4 stamps. Personally I seem to find American souvenir stamps for general trade exhibitions (a number of which I have posted in separate threads over the years) more attractive than those from philatelic societies. Perhaps its because the trade had more cash to splash and could afford higher calibre design teams. But then, the philatelists should have more of a handle on good designs.
Perhaps I should find my trade exhibition posts and put them into one thread.

Carrying on with the APS theme and notwithstanding Steve's preference for different designs, I give you the Twin Cities of 1929 ! Wink

Another nice set [of colours at least] and this time Printed by Greene Engraving Company of St.Paul.

The American Philatelic Congress was held in Cleveland, Ohio in November 1945 and a fine set of small Souvenir sheets/large labels were issued to commemorate the event.

They show the massive Terminal Tower which, when completed in 1930, was the world's tallest building outside of New York. With a nice Philatelic addition !

SEPAD, National Stamp Exhibition, June 1938

I recently received a wonderful gift from a friend in the USA of this 1938 Sheetlet & folder for the annual SEPAD Exhibition. Superb condition, like new and missing from my collection. The item celebrates the Swedish-USA tercentenary.

Here's another example from the Centenary Year 1940.

The Michigan Stamp Club celebrated their 26th Anniversary at the Book-Cadillac Hotel in Detroit.

I have 2 sheets, both shown, but there may be more and have not been able to find out up to now.

Wow...no activity since last May...we'll need to do something about that!

The third International Philatelic Exhibition held in the U.S. took place in New York City at the Grand Central Palace from May 9 through May 17, 1936. Shown here are the four poster stamps that were produced to promote the show. The exhibition took place during Postmaster General Farley's tenure.

Good on yer Mr.Tomisek !!

The item below is, so I am told, a proof block from the first issue of the Bay Ridge Stamp Society of Brooklyn, New York. There were a few labels and a few sheets issued in 1940 celebrating the Stamp Centenary and then nothing else. I have not been able to find out what happened to this Society and not much was written during it's existence. I have most of the other items and will show them when I am not so weary. They were/are the most costly of all USA Exhibition/Club items that I have acquired.

I hope that no one minds my repeating myself so that the blocked Photobucket images could be replaced. Wink

This set of four was engraved/printed by the American Banknote Company for the Centenary International Philatelic Exhibition held in New York, New York, May 17-25, 1947. Portrayed on the stamps, from left to right are: Dom Pedro, ruler of Brazil when the first Brazil stamp was issued in 1843; Queen Victoria, monarch of Great Britain when the first stamp was issued in 1840; and, James K. Polk, President of the United States in 1847 when the first U.S. stamp was issued. Below Queen Victoria is the Coat of arms of Switzerland, the only other country to issue stamps before the United States.

Set of four se-tenant pairs of poster stamps promoting the ASDA's 11th National Postage Stamp Show held in New York City from November 20-22, 1959.

I wondered why rocket mail was the central theme on these stamps and set about Googling to find out why. It appears that on June 8, 1959, the US Navy fired a Regulus I missile from the USS Barbero (SSG-317) and directed it to land at the Naval Auxiliary Air Station at Mayport, Florida, near Jacksonville. While the submarine had been docked in Norfolk, Virginia, Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield helped place two blue and red metal containers, holding 3,000 letters, inside the sub’s missile prior to the flight. The identical letters from the PMG, which enthusiastically announced the experiment, were addressed to President Eisenhower, Vice President Nixon, the Cabinet, Members of Congress, top federal and state officials, and postmasters around the world. The missile was fired from the submarine shortly before noon on the 8th and arrived at Mayport twenty-two minutes later. The rocket mail theme seems to have been an attempt to appeal to Summerfield's enthusiasm for the possibility of postal uses for the technology. The 1959 test firing was the only incidence of using a missile to carry mail in the US.

This is something that I very rarely do, I'm posting here something that I don't own. The Cinderella souvenirs for the National Stamp Exhibitions are well known and very well produced. The set for 1934 held at the Rockefeller Centre, New York have been shown previously in this thread. In the picture below, the first 3 stamps are the usual versions. However, the 4th stamp specifically states 'PURCHASED IN' just above 'Rockefeller Centre' and 'From Observation Roofs' and duly printed as such. I have seen 2 other similar stamps for 'The Coronet Stamp Shop on Fifth Avenue' and 'Rockefeller Center Stamp Shop'.
