The Cinderella Stamp Club

Just a quick plug to remind everyone that membersship of this wonderful club runs from January to January so the best time to join is NOW if you want to enjoy a whole year's membership - and if you are a member DO NOT FORGET TO RENEW your membership!

I have been asking the magazine to include a line to advertise our forum for the past three magazine issues but each time we have apparently fallen through the cracks so let's hope we can get some coverage soon.  If you are joining the Club for the first time PLEASE mention our forum as the place where you heard about the CSC and perhaps they will look a little kinder on us in future!

The CSC has had some staff changes recently and this is particularly of interest to the fantasy and local post collectors as the people editing these have changed. So it is the perfect opportunity to influence the magazine and the CSC to get greater coverage of our stamp interests and to possibly steer the club towards presenting a broader range of interests in future.

Membership of the club costs £18 and includes free stamp issues and four magazines anally.

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

No sooner said than done.

My membership confirmation arrived last weekend.

I did offer to put members issues on askmeaboutstamps.com but I might have forgotten to tell them about the Forum.  Ooops.

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

Still waiting for my confirmation sad, sad, sad

The CSC mag is a good read, even for the issues you don't collect. The articles are well researched and have a wealth of background information. I wait in anticipation for it to arrive.

And lets hope its third time lucky for a mention of this forum in the mag.

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

Well guess what? After I posted this yesterday I received an email asking whether I could send new information regarding the forum to the new Editor - so it looks like we might get a mention this quarter after all!

Fingers crossed...

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

Heard from them again and it now looks like being the April issue now.

But still no problem - I need to get a paragraph or two organised explaining the benefits of forum membership to potential members - any ideas? I might be too close to it myself.

We did get a plug in the Local Post Collectors Society newsletter last month - but as yet there hasn't been much of a stampede of members, perhaps we have had afew more lurkers than usual?  I'll have to see if I can check who has been logging on but not logging in next time I see Jeremy.

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

Has anyone had any thoughts about why potential members should join our forum? What made you join?  I know why I joined but if I wrote it down I would probably get into trouble with Jeremy so I'd rather leave it up to you folks to say. I can then write it up for the Cinderella Stamp Club, I'll even mention names if anyone is really keen.

I have a plan (I would say 'cunning' but that could be misinterpreted) that might help draw attention to the benefits of membership but I can't go into it in detail here or it will backfire.

Lets just say if you are reading this and have been thinking about joining NOW would be a jolly good time to do so...  Next week will be too late.

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

errr  umm
thats a tricky one Colin, sort of question that could be at a job interview.

I'll say what I hoped for.
Discussion on Cinderella philately in a good natured way
Coverage of the full spectrum of Cinderella collecting
Learn more / broaden my horizons
An opportunity to improve my collection

But we still need more members especially those who will post here
I'm still looking for the diversity

And I like forums. You get interaction, which is missing from published articles - even though most are excellent you dont see the feedback.
And you get a community (or sub-communities) of like minded helpful friendly people.

(did I get the job?)

Now I am also intrigued with your cunning plan.

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

Love the analogy!

There were no tricks or trapdoors intended or implied.

I just want to know what people expected from joining the forum, and how we could extrapolate that to potential new members.

I agree with your hopes list but as I am not an expert on Cinderellas myself I cannot persoannly provide the educational aspects - I would say those are possibly better suited to the CSC newsletter. I should think the nearest we have to that is Gregory's extensive knowledge of the books and articles previously published - which I have found extremely useful.

I wanted to start a forum because there didn't seem to be anywhere where beginners like myself could 'meet' and talk to more experienced designers or collectors and my hope was that a community would grow here which would be free and open enough to make that possible.  I think becoming recognised by the CSC and LPCS is one step along that route.

We haven't been going a year yet but are still growing steadily and hopefully with the passing of time more than three or four of us will feel confident enough to post!

I have met some very interesting and stimulating people here who I would not otherwise have been able to talk to - and for that alone I am pleased that I started the forum.

As for the cunning plan... be intrigued!  For a couple of weeks anyway...

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

Just a quick reminder that anyone thinking of perhaps joining the CSC should do so ASAP.

Membership runs from January to January so any benefits will be reduced if you leave membership until after February and you will miss out on any magazines, events or news - and the free stamp!  There is a very good value auction in the Spring and Autumn that can be bid by post and there will be news of Stampex and other exhibitions.

And you can pay by Paypal so if you have a good week selling on eBay, subscriptions became even more painless.

Mention our forum on the membership form if you can  :-)

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

Colin, as your magazine arrived yet, because its looking like this landing on my doorstep will be the only indication that my fees have been accepted

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

hi Steve

I don't remember ever receiving an acknowledgement that fees have been accepted and I remember one year not getting my subscriptions in on time yet my magazines still arrived. I would assume if you haven't received a subscription reminder then your fees have arrived.

I haven't even recievd my magazine yet so lucky you?!

Anything interesting in there? No rebuttals of anything printed in the last issue I suppose?

Perhaps my issue will arrive tomorrow...

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

Its not arrived - having no acknowledgement of fees accepted and no magazine yet I was wondering whether to bother them and find out

Re: The Cinderella Stamp Club

Me too...  Ooops.

I had convinced myself I had paid by Paypal only to find that you can't actually pay by Paypal (I was also sure I paid by Paypal last year so maybe the system had changed) - so thanks for the headsup Steve!

Its around 70 A4 pages and issued tri-monthly. There are articles about various cinderella issues, plus regular contributions on Local Posts of the World, British Local Posts and reports from WWI and WWII study groups. They are currently working their way (slowly) through an update on the GB strike posts (1971 in particular).
thats it in brief
