A few stamps/labels for the Conferation of Germans in Lower Austria. I am not quite sure whether they are patriotic or charity labels but possible the latter with all having a 2 value. They look pre-WWI to me
These must be quite a lot of these issued. On a European auction site there is one described as #100. I thik they are very optimistic with some of the text on these. Brings a new meaning to the phrase 'read the small print'. They are barely 1½ inches tall, so that text is minute. |

A similar sort of issue, again with a 2 value. This time the stamps are in blocks of 4 and issued by the Organisation for 'Germanness' Abroad. The picture show scenes from German speaking places in Germany, Poland (formerly E. Prussia) and Austria.

The CSC has been doing a continuing article on the labels of Bund der Deutschen in Neider Ostterreich over the last 5 magazines. Its only now that they are up to these pictorial labels that I have put two and two together, helped by the colour pictures in this month's mag.
The articles give a comprehensive listing of all the issues and there are mnay, which is great, but lacks some more background information on the organisation and why they issued so many stamps. |

I have now some more of these in my collection.
All these are termed Leidermarken or Song Stamps and date from 1913. There were 3 different sheets of 20 or 30 stamps, all with pastoral, romantic or militaristic images. The German Confederations (Bund der Deutschen) were formed in the German speaking regions of central Europe, with the hope of a Pan-Germanic community, originally in opposition to Napoleon, and later against the ruling classes. These are all issued by the Confederation in Lower Austria, and despite the different styles in each stamp, come from the two 30 stamp sheets. |

I have some translations for these stamps now. Very interesting I reckon.
Let’s go, you old flag fly…. Never will we give up our German Belief and our German Ways! Three Lilies (flowers) I planted three lilies on my grave, a proud horseman came along and picked them up Do not fall in Love. What did I do to my Love?? She passes me without looking at me. Gold and Silver. Look here, the golden wine is sparkling in my cup! Listen here, so silver pure are the sounds of the cups! The past was golden which I do not deny. Now with silver hair I love to think about olden times…. |

Soon I will cut the grass at the Neckar (River – City of Heidelberg). It does not work for me if the sickle is not sharp enough, What good is a girl if she will not stay with me No more wine in the cup. She wanted to be a girl with a Dirndl (a Bavarian dress), serve me drinks, I am feeling like there are roses floating on top of the clear wine I am a dashing fellow. Doggone, a fellow is coming down the street and making a compliment: “Mister, pay for the soles!” “Yes tomorrow morning you can come and get the money!” Lore (a girl’s name) is waiting at a gate. Of all the girls, very nice and bright, I like the best the girl Lore. The broken little ring. She promised to be faithful, And gave me a little ring |

The waitress is saying: “Young Blood, you still have your coat, a walking stick and your hat to pawn so keep on drinking.” Fun filled Blood and easy Thinking, Lost is lost, Gone is gone…. I am sitting in the cool basement. The (bar)keeper pulls the lever all the way according to my wish, Gives me a glass and I drink, drink and keep on drinking Strolling along Beer and Liverwurst from Bavaria, juchheidi, juchheida. …and a young woman with nice ‘boobs’, juchheidi, juchheida |

These are further German Confederation stamps but this time from Northern Moravia in what is now the Czech Republic. Though these will be a sample from a much larger set, one for each town, I have posted these up to show the underprint on the back of the stamps.
I think this may be the designers at the Institute of Arts at Neutuschein. |
