Topic: BEA Air Letter Service labels Posted: 05 September 2011 at 02:48 |
As mentioned in my introduction as a new memeber, I need some of the the above labels, in UM condition, for completing my collection.
They are: Issue of July 1st 1957 (5) 11d, 1/6, 2/4 Issue of October 4th 1961 (7) 1/, 1/8, 2/7 The number in brackets is the identifier of the issues in the catalogue "The railway and airway letter stamps of the British Isle" of H.T. Jackson, published in 1979. My collection ends with a British Airways 55p stamp but I remember another stamp with a denomination larger than £ 1, which also I am looking for (and for any other later issue, if any). I am looking also for any BEA/BA label on cover. Please, consider that the payment would be by Paypal. Many thanks for your attention. Michele |

Hi Michele
Not sure if you have the info about BA Airways Letter Service stamps, but the issue you mentioned is the first BA issue 1st April 1974, and it was 55p as you stated, the next issue, the 2nd issue was £1 but PLUS VAT which I think was 8% so the price was £1.08p. The third BA issue of 1st December 1978 was £1.50 plus VAT again at 8% so £1.62p. The fourth BA issue of 14th July 1980 was £2.20 plus VAT now at 15% so £2.53p. The fifth BA issue of 1st February 1982 was £2.80 plus VAT at 15% so £3.22p. The sixth BA issue of 1st May 1983 was £3 plus VAT at 15% so £3.45p. BA discontinued their Airways Letter Service on 2nd May 1988 Hope that helps, Phil. |

Phil, many thanks for the information, which fills a gap in my sparse knowledge of the subject. Do you know any commercial source of these stamps?
Thanks again Michele |

Not sure whether you are still loking for missing BEA Air Letter service stamps but I have a 11d UM and also a 6d UM that I do not collect. They arrived in a selection of other UK stamps Let me know if you still need a 11d and I'll send you a picture if you let me know your e-mail address Regards Mike |
