Picked this one up yesterday - it has a pair of 40c stamps (compared to the previously shown FDC) and is from the 2nd issue.

hello Bernhard.
Did you complete that book on the Aramoana stamp's series. I'm compiling a collection of fdc's & min sheets & would welcome any info on all of the stamp issues. Regards Brian.

Aramoana 1983 & 1984 Stamp fairs stamps, with both black and red overprints. The Aramoana region of Otago declared independence from New Zealand on 23rd December 1980, as a protest against plans by the Kiwi regime to allow construction of a large aluminium smelter there. During the years following its independence, Aramoana issued one beautiful stamp issue each year. Most Aramoana stamps featured oil paintings by famous Kiwi artists, or in the case of the 1982 issue, photographs by the famous Robin Morrison. These stamps were very effective, and eventually, the Kiwis dumped the project, allowing Aramoana to be absorbed back into New Zealand. The power of stamps! The artists were: Marilyn Webb paintings of Lake Mahinerangi (the second Aramoana stamp issue of 1981); Robin Morrison (1982); Dave Kent (1983.) The 1983 issue features paintings of albatross and chicks, and whales. Taiaroa Head is site of a major albatross colony, which would have been disrupted if the smelter went ahead. Whales can be seen passing Taiaroa Head today. === These overprints are thought likely to have been organised by Auckland stamp dealers, as they are not mentioned in the catalogue of Aramoana stamps, compiled by Doktorvonwer who is a member of this forum, although a 1982 issue with similar overprint is listed.

Hi Panterra, you are quite right. My Aramoana stamp listings are still at draft stage, even after all these years, as new items pop up when you are least expecting them. Such as the 1983 "Auckland" overprints on the Albatross issue (issue 1 of Aramoana). Does anyone know who was behind them? Perhaps someone likes to share a scan of a cover so we can find out the posdtmark? Thanks for any help! Doktorvonwer
