Hello again!

A little while ago I put some examples on here of old artwork I designed 2003-2008 for the Dicworld stamps, from 3 old Macintoshes I had decommissioned.

There was such a great reception for these that I thought I might dig out some more. This was no easy task as since the artwork was produced the operating systems have all evolved and much of the original files are now incompatible.  So I have recreated an old system, rebuilt it where necessary and uploaded as much of the classic software as possible and found ways of bringing it up to date so that it can be output to modern printers.  It’s SO slow compared to my workaday kit but it’s nice to see it in action and a big memory test for me to get it to work properly!

I have also sourced some old fashioned high-gloss proofing paper but have printed the sheets with modern Durabrite water-based inks which have good light-fastedness - although I do not recommend permanently displaying the sheets in bright sunlight as despite such inks being sold as colourfast in daylight, whenever you look into it manufacturers only actually guarantee this for around 3-5 years.

All printouts are signed on the front or back and rubber-stamped with my studio name and address rubber stamp - this is nothing to do with my ego (as I have heard said!) - it is something which I agreed (with Terry's agent at the time) to do for any artwork that came from my studio, to help authenticate in years to come.

The majority of these printouts are copies of what would have been sent from the studio to the shop for them to take to Terry for approval. Sometimes these would go in the overnight post or with print deliveries, more often they would be emailed down to Somerset and driven across to Terry at their next meeting. Some have the dates and filename at the top, some have notes from us (Alan Batley and I) to the shop to help describe to Terry our thoughts on how we thought the stamps would best work.  Some are enlargements to help show detail, there are versions of stamps which started smaller and were printed larger in their final form - and vice versa. There are also copies of stuff sent from me to Alan; the final proofs sent to printers; or copies from the printers to the shop for their approval and sign-off. Interesting stuff, and hopefully something for everyone, and a window into the process that won't be available elsewhere.

If some of these printouts look familiar it’s because they were left over from the last batch when collectors asked for something to be set-aside and then didn’t pay for them, despite updates and requests - so they are back here...  when they are gone, they are gone!

NB - the actual sheets do not have the ‘SAMPLE’ watermark stamped diagonally across them, I have decided to do this because some of the previous batch of sheets have been copied and turned up on other forums and websites and I don’t think that’s fair on the collectors who have bought them in good faith. I therefore also reserve the right not to sell the sheets to anyone who I think might want to use them for any purpose other than their own collections.  I should also point out that the black edge of the photos is the background card that the sheets were laid on for the photos so is not part of the design; the sheets are A4 with a white background.

I do not intend to print these regularly so make the most of this while you can!

I have tried to keep the price down so that REAL collectors can have and enjoy them, but there will always be someone out there who can only see artist's work as a fast buck investment.

Or you could GIVE them to the British Library collection... it would be nice to have my name on record somewhere 'official' for designing the early stamps, and Alan's for his illustrations - which are STILL being used today despite him not ever getting any extra payment for that.

Considering a whole sheet of stamps costs about 0.5p to print, and design/artwork averaged £500 - yet a single Discworld stamp sells for upwards of 35p - I would have thought someone could dip into their pockets to say thank you to him just once every five, ten or fifteen years?

But it's not all about money.

It's been a bit of a slap in the face as the years roll by and we don't even get a mention anymore, and I don't suppose this year's anniversary 'celebration' will be any different.  Embarrassed  Dead  Angry

At least WE got to work with Terry.  Priceless.
