From the 10th June to 16th July 1944, a stamp exhibition was held (or supposed to have been held) at Chateau Malmaison in France. This was once the home of General Napoleon Bonaparte and later the home of Napoleon III.

A set of Cinderellas was issued and there was some debate as to whether they depicted Napoleon Bonaparte's son, the king of Rome or Napoleon III's son. They were based on a series of essays by the French engraver Jean Ferdinand Joubert who did some work for De La Rue.

Here is an imperforate set (although, different shades do exist) produced for the exhibition. You will see that they are in the style of the Ceres postage stamps and also the style used for Napoleon III postage stamps. Then there is a set of the Joubert stamps produced in 1869. We then have a pair of tickets with one stamp attached, then a perforated set.

In France, the Joubert stamps are always referred to as depicting Napoleon III's son, sometimes referred to as Napoleon IV.

What a nice set!

There is always more of a story behind a Cinderella than regular stamps.
